Test of the new AC unit before continuing. Plug n play!

Test of the new Coand unit before continuing. Works great!

And Indy showed up... ;)

guide17.jpg

The old plastic braket needs to be swoped for a new one that the new
panels fit to so all this has to be removed inc the glove box.

guide18.jpg

Glovebox and center conlose removed and the panel gets off..

guide19.jpg

Now it is just to put the new panel in and assemble it all back like it was removed.

He shows up again.. Indy..All works.

Hi,
Great photos, have you got a list of parts that you aquired? Also you don't make any mention of the wiring alterations, is it a complete new or plug and play?

Great job! Don't you just love the fear element when the car is in bits and you know you need to get it working again. I installed my comand and lux climate control as well, all good fun. Thanks for the photos!

Niice job, and excellent little thread, thank you ... interesting read.
Nice trim panels you found there too

couple of questions if i may,

i take it that you need the equivalent pre-facelift AC control unit (ie not the standard one) in order for that digital intelligent module to be plug and play.

and the Comand-APS 2.5 was plug and play directly ? - i am interested in possibly taking a 2.0 up to a 2.5

Is the Digital readout climate control a straight swop with standard one

I read somewhere earlier that it was, however i doubt that you would gain it's 'intelligent' features

There is an improvement in the logic of the air distribution e.g. on hot days with ice cold air from the face vents it bleeds a little 'warm' air to the footwells to prevent over cooling the feet!
The hysteresis of the system is reduced as well.

I love this install. Can you tell me what car the donor parts are from. I have a W203 prefacelift estate. I am happy to use the audio 20 headunit at the moment until I can afford a comand. There seem to be many similar parts but am sure that they wont just fit together if they are from different models. Excuse my ignorance.

Can someone tell me what model (w203 facelift, w209) and years will fit into my car, also what other parts will I need. I have the standard single din headunit and standard climate control at the moment.

Thanks

If you have a pre facelift, then the bits from a post facelift will be the ones you want.

IS the w209 parts the same as W203

So this should fit
MERCEDES CLC (W203) AUDIO 20 CD. NEW. PART NUMBER A 203 870 34 94 MODEL MF2860

I dont think the CLK parts are exactly the same. Also the newer Audio 20 unit wont connect without changing the wiring to the post-facelift type (ISO to QUADLOCK).

Lots of good info on the upgrade here: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/elec...nsole-upgrade-aux-luxury-climate-control.html

Due to the change from D2B to MOST on the post facelift I dont think the steering controls and maybe the cluster display will work either with the new Audio 20 unit, and anything else currently on the D2B fibre ring like cd changer or telephone.

No. Electrically yes but the mountings and the shape of the unit are completely different.

Thanks for the replies.

So basically I need a headunit that uses the D2B bus and not MOST

It will be no problem with cable adapters, as long as the steering wheel controls etc work.

I will be doing the whole console and not just the headunit and am aware that it all has to be done.

In that case would the audio 20 A209 820 65 89 Model no MF 2740 work on the current bus. Like the one below.

Mercedes Audio 20 Radio CD MF2740 from a CLK W209 on eBay (end time 07-Nov-10 19:33:51 GMT)

It would be great is someone could tell me the model numbers of audio 20 that will plug in and work the same as old unit and whether a quadlock adapter will be needed.

No as there is no post facelift headunit that uses D2B, they are all MOST and will all have quadlock. Alfie has already pointed out above that the CLK audio units are a different shape and mountings so get a W203 Audio 20.

Did you look at the link I posted in post #16? The 1st link in that thread has pretty much all the info you need.

I have read through the writeup on the upgrade and see that eventhough the facelift model switched to MOST the head units have the gateway built in so it should be a case of swapping over the connectors to quadlock and it should work.

I have read elsewhere that the instrument cluster display and steering wheel controls will not work and I would have to change the display as well. There is nothing in the write up about this. Sorry to ask all these questions
