Hello.

I recently bought a 270cdi i thought I'd start a new thread to follow it's progress.

It's a 52 reg 270cdi in silver. It has 2 previous owners the last one having owned it since 2004.

The car in it self needs some tlc as it was slightly neglected in the later part of its ownership.

Currently has a 108k with Mercedes-Benz service up to 2007 and from then on the last owner had it serviced using local specialists etc.

However he didn't have the service book stamped etc.

I bought it of a member on the bmw forum who sold it on behalf of the last owner.

The member had worked on it ie service etc.

Overall it's a nice car. My first merc. And I like it!

So here it is as it stands today.

So the plans

Face-lift front bumper
Rear amg bumper with quad pipes
Clean head lights as there abit dull
Rear ns cluster needs replacing
Third brake light needs replacing
Have a look at the body work as its needs some attention
Wheels could do with a refurb

That's it for now

Looks like you have a decent example to start with there.
AMG III alloys and Panoramic roof are two nice options.

Thanks. I wasn't to sure what rims they were nice1 for naming them.

Pan roof is what sets it apart and the little one loves it.

One feature I miss is the bum warmers.

Looks very nice that, I do love a silver W211 with Panoramic roof.

So I decided to update the hands free kits with a brand new Bluetooth one.

I had a look at some including parrot but decided on a Nokia as the car currently has a Nokia all be it a very old.

My hope was that it would be a straight (ish) swap.

I started off by removing the nessessery trim.

I then traced back the wiring from the current hands free kits to the passenger foot well and removed carpet etc to expose the old box

The issue I came across was that the iso sot connector wasn't compatible with the head unit.

My only saving grace was the old hands free kit assuming the wiring was already got in place and all I'll need to do was to plug the new box in etc.

However the plugs were slightly different but no big deal as I cut the ends of the old one and replaced it with the plug of the iso connector.

So all done switched the ignition on but no joy. I'm assuming this is down to the ignition sense (blue wire) which has been tapped to the blue cable for the cigarette lighter.

I noticed the cigarette lighter dosnt work. So would assume this is the issue.

I checked online and the fuse box is apparently under the bonnet for the cigarette lighter.

This is where iv hit a wall as the bonnet dosnt want to open lol

The release lever was ok until I yanked it and broke it grrr

After having done some research it would seem this is common.

The passenger side has realised however the driver side isn't. I read if I remove the arch liner there is a cable behind there which if I pull should do the trick.

I'm happy with the overall look.

In terms of the issue with the ignition sense. I will need to wait until next weekend to look at opening the bonnet and take it from there.

Thanks

Update 8 Jan 2016

Rear n/s cluster replacement.

As the existing one was damaged it was on my list on things to do.

Before

It wasn't severely damaged however was letting water in as condensation was often noticed and besides I just couldn't have a broken one lol

You can get retro fit heated seats.

You can get retro fit heated seats.
It's something I have thought about and would love to have. I did a retrofit I'm my e39 bm for electronic heated memory seats.

Depending on how much work is involved and cost will be the deciding factors.

Update 9th January 2016

As mentioned before the bonnet wouldn't realease from the driver side.

After having done some research it appears this is a common issue.

I managed to find a post on how to get it open.

Link

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/part...-bonnet-hood-open-message-alarm-problems.html

And a video as a rough guide.

http://youtu.be/CpAK8FuyqQI

1. Remove the wheel

2. Remove the front part of the arch liner

3. Reach up toward the top of the head light

4. Feel for a cable. Note there are two cable one for each side you need to isolate the correct one. In my case it was above the one for the passenger side.

5. Pull cable. Note the cable is the same as the ones you get on bike ie for the brakes. Its rigged and smooth. Before pulling insure it's the correct cable and NOT a wiring harness for the headlights.

6. Use mild Force and you should hear the bonnet being released.

I still haven't had the chance to sort out the reason for why it became jammed. I think it's a slipped cable and will be replacing it once I have confirmed the issue.

This took best part of 45min

Thanks

Sorry no pics on this one.

I used the below tutorial to remove the front arch liner. The video also covers removing the front bumper which isn't needed to get the bonnet open.
