I planted this tree 6 years ago when it was a twig, i don't know what it is, only that it can live for 100 years and bear fruit. This is the first time it's fruited, What is it, and can the fruit be eaten without immediate death?

Looks like it could be a Bay Laurel

I wouldn’t eat the berry as I am not sure what it could do to you.

Leave that for the birds

It’s a strawberry tree - have no idea if the fruit is edible!

Have you not got anything in the fridge to eat?

Well done Ron i think you're right, as well as a couple of others, I've read the Wikipedia post and it all seems to make sense. I may sample a red one, i did think they could be eaten but not sure. Thanks all.

My wife has eaten it but found the flavour rather unpleasant. For me, if something doesn't come from the supermarket, I'm not eating it!
