What are the pros and cons of using Nappa leather for car interiors?

Does Nappa leather wear more quickly? Does it look 'tired' sooner?

Is it nicer to sit on Nappa covered seats?

'Normal' MB leather (not Artico) is PU coated. Is Nappa?

Nappa is softer and certainly more luxurious. Richard had his ML re covered in AMG nappa leather and it does look fantastic. the thing to remember with it though is that it will stretch more easily so if you knell on a seat for example it may well not recover to its previous shape. I thought about it for the A class and wish i had gone for it just for the look and feel.

A friend had an Audi S6 Avant with nappa & it looked dirty, scruffy & bobbly.

Looked a bit like dirty suede TBH.

That sounds far more like it's alcantara (a form of industrial suede) than Nappa. A lot of manufacturers, including Audi, offer it on their sportier models as it really holds you in your seat when cornering rapidly.

Ah, sorry!

We have nappa leather seats in our CLK500 convertible.....look really good in a 5 year old car....needed a good clean when we got it (cream leather) but ohterwise in "as new" condition.

I have Nappa in my CLK, much better than the regular leather in the SLK - better looking, softer - but don't tell the missus:D

I have nappa in my C-Class. It looks and feels nice, but it's a bit of a liability as it would mark easily.

My ideal would be part cloth/alcantara and part Artico. Best of all worlds: not too cold or hot in winter or summer, hardwearing, with a little leather 'glam'.

I find my nappa seats to be warmer than previous leather seats. They are softer and seem to mould to you better too. As for wear, well my old leather seats on a previous E class wore out on the side squab after three years, due to rubbing getting in and out. No such problem on the nappa after two years.

I've got nappa in the 55 while the 240 has the standard merc leather. The nappa is much softer and gives a nice feel however it is a liability as it is softer and indeed stretches more easily. I try to keep it immaculate but I have to be careful how I get in and out for scrathes and wear and so do my passengers. The normal leather does not look as good but is robust as hell, you can just wipe with a wet cloth, does not pick up scratches much better long term.

That's how my CLK is.....

Thanks for reducing the hankering for full leather :D

Most W164 MLs have Sport trim, and are part artico part alcantara.

When we bought our ML - before the W164 was released - we actually found it really difficult to find an ML without full leather, as it's our family car and I find hot/cold leather and adult legs aren't a good mix, never mind childrens!!

We found one in the end though, and it was worth waiting for. My C would be much more practical with only part-leather, but sadly it's not an option.

If you are thinking of nappa as a change from your pristine leather, then i can put you in touch with someone who is very very good and very very reasonably priced ;)

I think I may have beaten you to it! I did mention your name ;)
