Just got a letter asking me to verify the mileage of my previous car when I sold it from National Mileage Register.
I'm quite happy to do this, I'm all for helping stamp out clocking etc. But, when I read the "about us" section of the website I see that it is a private company. So of course this information is used as a part of the HPI checking we do when buying a used car. Given that they are in it for the money, although providing a useful service, I can't help think it would be a fair trade to get something in return.
Not expecting cash payouts or similar, but maybe a credit for a free HPI check would be a fair exchange?
Mini mild tempered rant over
