Hello, has anyone got over the problem of only being able to enter a partial postcode into the Nav 50 APS system? It is so frustrating to be told that you are at your destination when in reality you may be more than a mile away depending on the length of the road. Thanks for any help that I might receive.

I thought that was only a problem we NTG-1 users had to suffer??

Would have thought that a 61 plate car would have 7 digit postcode Sat Nav as standard.

TBH the Merc Sat Nav is toss compared to a stand alone Tom Tom IMHO.

As an aside to this does anyone know if there is a newer version for NTG-1 that allows full postcode input??

The latest version appears to be v12 - still trying to find out if it has full postcode input or not. Might be worth doing anyway if yours is a much older version.

Map updates do not change anything, NTG1 only supports 5 digit postcode regardless of map version.

OP the unit only supports 5 digit postcode. Comand would have given you 7 digit postcode.

Mine takes me pretty much to the exact location, as long as you select the street and pick the house number. Did you skip that last step and hit OK right away?

I would agree with that. The main problem is finding places that do'nt have numbers. Later versions of discs only seem to update map information. I've just updated mine to V10, with a genuine disc from German E-bay seller & found it gives me all the latest mapping within the past 18/24 months & for £35 I'm quite happy.

Thank you for your replies. Pretty much as I suspected. As was mentioned the problem arises when you have a long road and the place you want has no number. Was looking for the MIRA test track in Watling Street and travelled about two miles "on a wing and a prayer" after I had been informed that my destination had been reached. Oh well COMAND next time (maybe)!

Spend £100 on a TomTom and keep it in the glove box for when it's important you find somewhere.

The Becker in our C class has 7 digit postcode (cost £300)

It's frankly appalling that in a new £30K car the Nav50 is so technologically retarded.

On a recent road trip I found that many such places I were looking for by address were listed as POIs so could be navigated to quite accurately that way instead. Sure, full postcode would be simpler but Nav50 has worked very well 99 times out of a 100 for me, so far.

I also have Navigon as an iPhone app as a backup for those special cases where Nav50 can't find the place but so far haven't had to use it.

Thought you might like to see the reply from MB re my query. My original email (via their 'contact' link, so no copy) was scathing of the Nav50. Immediately below is their paraphrasing of same. Their reply is of no comfort to those also hoodwinked by the lack of information on the Nav50 when selecting the spec of a new car! Thank you all for your replies.

Issues with only having the facility for a 5 figure post code, which is of no real use when trying to locate an unnumbered property in a long street or road?

Thank you for contacting the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center Maastricht N.V.

We write further to your recent email communication to thank you for your feedback in reference to the Navigation package on your Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Having spoken to our Technical Specialists, we can confirm that the Navigation 50 system does not offer a 7 digit postcode search function; there is no firmware upgrade outstanding which will change the functionality of this device as Mercedes-Benz do not consider this to be a deficiency.

We apologise for any inconvenience or misunderstanding that has taken place and will of course pass on your feedback to the relevant department.
