Why do people ruin perfectly good classics with wheels like this?

I like it, other than the wheels though. My old one had the 'Mexican Hat' wheels.

I quite like that actually ......

Remember 'Escape from New York' ;)

It looks like it should have chandeliers on the wings .....

Like these......

Well, it was the wheels that I don't like. Can you please explain "mexican hat" wheels? Spinners?

Oh Yeah !!

Back to the Old Skool !!!

the orginal alloys look stunning and with high profile tyres the ride quality is as it should be. when you fit big wheels on a car with tyres like rubber bands
that they were not designed for they drive like absolute crap !!. At the end of the day w116's were never designed to have the grip of a 997 gt3.

I see what you mean about the mexican hat wheels!!! Never heard them refered to like that . . . to be honest I prefered my silver hubcaps!
Blue ones are good too.

Sacrilege! Classics are classics for a reason. Bling is another word for Barry in my book

I think the mexican hat alloys are the most popular alloys ever made by Mercedes!

How bad do you want to go?

Note the BMW additions:

It's strange, but back then when I had the 116, 15" wheels were considered 'Big' wheels.

How times change, and it wasn't that long ago.
:)
