She does about 60/70 miles motorway driving a day, so im looking for a motor that is good for quite a lot of mileage that i want to last at least 5 years.
I only have about £5,000 to spend very soon, like now.
Any suggestions?

P.S. She blew up her Smart car today that i have been begging her to get rid of for ages because it is not suited to such a life.
Im not happy at the moment:(.
I now have to see if i can get it repaired but do not hold out much hope.

Where in the country are you? there are a fair few specialists around the country!

Kate

After selling the Wifes W202 and really needing an estate I set upon the task of finding a decent C or E class with budget of only 3k. All the Mercedes I found were either rusty or in very poor condidtion, so yesterday I got her a V70 Volvo...... got to say that I'm quite impressed so far.

The V70 is a bit to big for her, especially after a Smart car:).
I have always thought of Volvo's as cars that are good for mileage though.

Is there any type of Merc that is good for going on for ever that is not MASSIVE?
I can spend a bit more than £5,000 if i "have" to.

P.S. It would be good if the car does not need oil, EVER, (poor joke, still annoyed at how she blew her Smart up.)

We never touched the W202 for over a year.... never used any oil at all, what a great car.

Am i right in saying the W202 is a C Class?

What year did these cars start and end?
My wife will poodle along, so what model would be best for her 35/70mile commute?

94 - 2000 so it maybe a little to old for her? We had the C200 which definatly was great at poodling..... Perhaps a nice W203 - the new C class would suffice?

Polo 1.4TDi would do the job if you don't want a big car.

Passat diesel?

I used to see a lot of these (and also A4s) doing long distance commutes on the M8 and A9.

Is the W203 C class one of the better Mercs of late, ie last forever?

I am also looking at smaller cars, im even doing a bit of research on the Hyundai i10 which has got great reviews and i think comes with a 7 year unlimited mileage warranty.
They cost £7,000.

The i10 is supposed to be a good car but I haven't actually driven one.

Bet your glad the Smart car is no more, I really don't like those cars.

I must admit, even though the gearchange was awful, i loved the car. It is a great city car but not suited to A and M roads.

I have also just been looking at the A4 Audi, nice car.
I do like the w203 C Class, i cant believe how cheap they are.

You will find that W202's are better than W203's. The only period of W203's that can hold any water vs a W202 is the facelifted ones after 2004 which you might be able to find for your budget of 5k.

I had a 1995 C200, was my uni slag, what a beautiful car. Bought it just under 100k miles and racked it up to 179k miles in 3 years. Was absolutely beautiful, only changed tyres pads once and serviced it when needed and it never went wrong, ever.

I am in the East London/Essex Area.

Try Fudge (www.fudgesmart.co.uk) he's in Bury St Edmonds but pretty sure they could collect from you. Let them know Kate from WellSmart sent you. We could also do the work but are in Somerset as could Ollie (BlackC55 on here) but he's near Portsmouth so we could be a little too far.

How about a Smart forfour, Mitsubishi petrol engines or MB CDi's

Thank you very much for the link, i will contact them.

P.S. No more Smart cars for the Mrs while she is racking up the miles.
I am currently doing "research" on MB CDi's. Trying to suss out what would be a good option upto a very MAX of £7,000?

The original A Class, even though a good looker, it had the most uncomfortable/upright back seat i have ever sat on.
Merc told me, in the newer A class the seats were better.
The main problem i have with the newer A class is it is to expensive, although its "a good looker."
