I need an estate car, my dog is big and the back of the C class saloon isnt really suitable for him.

What would you choose? A C350 CDI estate or BMW 330D M sport?

Un biased opinions please :D

The BMW is far better engine wise on paper :)

If space is your main concern, then generally Mercedes have generally always made the bigger estate than its competitiors....

The choice of Mercedes vs BMW is a personal one :thumb:

Yes the 330d has 14 more bhp and better consumption on a combined cycle... but i've driven a few bmws (currently still do) and all the stated figures are somewhat.. overstated...

For the space though, mercedes without a doubt.

I didn't think the C class estate was very big in the boot when my brother had one for test? (Its quite low)

Also rear leg room if over 6ft is pretty poor? not that a dog will mind:)

Drive both, see what you think. I would think looking at them the BMW is even smaller in the back.

Mine's a 2003 C Class estate - I assume newer ones are larger - and the previous owner used it to transport his dog in the boot. It's a also got a built in safety net to keep the dog in the boot in case of an accident which seems like a decent feature.

I would go for the new C Class Estate over the BMW... but I have the W203 estate and would choose the BMW estate as the tailgate closes at a flatter angle than my C class, though I do have a few dogs to convey.

Regards

Are you buying new??

The BMW is being replaced next year, where as the C Class is getting a facelift now so should be good for 4 years before it is an old model.

Just something to consider.

A Mercedes-Benz is far too good to be messed up carting a large canine around , what with hairs being cast all over the interior , snot and other stuff being slobbered all over the glass , not to mention that lovely 'kennel smell' that renders dog owners' cars unsaleable at any decent price afterwards .

I once bought a 190E which had been occupied by a dog - the car STANK when I bought it - after removing and shampooing the seats , FILLING the vacuum cleaner 1-1/2 times with dog hair , then wet cleaning the carpets , I finally got rid of the smell . I once walked away from an otherwise nice looking W126 because , when I opened the drivers door it smelled so strongly like an old ashtray that it made me physically sick !

How people can try to sell cars in that condition beats me ( the 190 , at least , was very cheap , but a valet could have doubled its value ) .

What you really need is one of these

Lovely dogs (GSPs?), but 4 of them in the back of a C Class ... they'd hardly be able to move ??

^ He needs a Vito like yours :) = Happy dogs.

Agree the boot on C class will be tight very tight

4 Collies are tight in the back of our Audi A4 estate (they only go in that for short trips). The 5th goes on a back seat or in the front foot well :D

They are " GERMAN Shorthaired Pointers " As They have short hair and do not slobber or STINK... They go well with the German brand as they like a great deal of attention.

It's ok my dogs do not smoke so the ashtray is empty ..... :-) Plus you got a bargain, I use my car as a car and the dogs love it !!.

regards

I have jeep cherokee for all when working them, so only two in C Class and thinking of getting an ML.

Regards
