HI everybody,

i recently bought oz michelangelo wheels 17x7.5 for my w124 230E.I am now going to buy tires..

tire rack recommends 215/45/17 for my car.

I have the choice between michelin pilot sport A/s plus and michelin pilot exalto PE.

I need a tire which will not cause loss of speed and a tire which will protect my rims due to the low profile tire.(215/45/17)

waiting for a reply,

steven.

I would have said you would be better with 225/45/17's ( which is what the w124 AMG runs on 17x7.5 rims ) ..

Try Camskill and look for Falken Fk452 in that size , great tyres , a lot of us use them.

Infact the alloy wheels are 17x7.5 with et35.
Do u think that 225/45/17 will cause rubbing issues and handling problems?

Wouldn't have thought so , they are the same size as i had on my w124 230CE ...

I had CLK55 amg alloys on my old W124, 225/45/17 front 245/40/17 rear, conti sport contacts. Only had a few scuffs on the near side rear due to a knackered shock! 225/45/17 won't be a problem plus it will give you the protection for the rim!

As Howard said mate, they`ll be fine.225/45 is the way to go PS:any pic

HI everybody,

will the michelin pilot sport a/s plus be good for w124 230E?

They'll be fine , it's not exactly brimming over with power ...

Why do you want to buy really expensive tyres ?

Load Range: XL

what is meant by XL?

and will speed rating:91W be good for w124?

XL = Extra Load. XL tyres have stronger tyre wall construction, capable to withstand higher tyre pressure, are generally about 10% more expensive and provide a harder ride. I believe the standard load rating on your tyre is 91 whereas XL is 94? I stand to be corrected but if you car does not need XL then I would not go for it.

W is the speed rating and unless you drive at a sustained 160mph+, I would just use the whatever your car specified, probably V or even H rated and save yourself an additional 10%-20% in price.

I would recommend spending extra on Michelin though because they wear out slower and have lower rolling resistance.

If you are a sporty driver then you may want Bridgestones as they have harder side wall traditionally to give a sharper turn-in.

Whatever you do, go for the best tyre design / compound for your car's specific ratings as it will save your life at some point. Also, no need to pay for extra load or extra speed which you would not use.

Hope this make sense.

225/45/17 is the correct size for the wheel

Do u confirm that 225/45/17 will fit with 17x7.5 et 35 alloy wheels?

I have Michelin Pilot Primacy (MO compound) on my W220 but I believe it's the most expensive tyre for this size without Costco's discount.

I use Bridgestone Potenza RE040 on the RX8 and Conti Sport Contact on the Smart Roadster.

Good tyres but expensive, what about Bridgestones?

I am actually searching for some tyres for my Nissan Maxima QX (205/65 R15 94V XL) and have ordered Avon ZV5 through National tyre online as they are doing discount at the moment at £70 each.

on my w220 s350 i use michelin primacy hp.very good tyres!
