Advice on logic here.

non Mercedes but another well known German marque with dieselgate issues.

exchanging emails over a car over a few days. They know I’m interested. Car was in dealership.

out of blue got an email saying it’s been registered and therefore the 0% finance and plug in grant are no longer available.
Then ask if I’m still interested.

what’s going on here? Simply don’t understand.

presumably it’s now a second hand car. They still want to sell it.

How much are they prepared to lower the price now it's second hand? Normal knowledge is that you loose maybe 20% of the cost of a new car as soon as you drive it out of the showroom!

Haven’t got that far with this. I was just surprised to be suddenly told the car you’ve been chatting about for 48hrs is now second hand.

it was fully electric. It would have had 3500 off from HMG. Presume if interested one should put an offer of 20-25% off the list price after plug in discount removed

I can only think that someone's screwed the pooch there, we're nowhere near end of quarter so I can't see it would be target-related. The lack of finance incentive is one thing, but EV buyers are going to know and expect the grant - they've just made it very hard to sell without taking a big hit, and residuals on EVs are bad enough as it is (apart from the cartel that is Tesla)

Possibly it was *always* already registered and they were just hoping to reel you in so that you'd bite even after the truth was revealed? Cancelled order at the 11th hour?

So what would be a reasonable offer on a £33k EV that was being sold for £29k as new but is now preregistered?

I think you might be right. Probably hoping to reel me in to buy something else

My accountant says a preregistered car is not 100 % allowable as a capital expense for company. So that’s out!
