New 5 car garage....

Great garage, cars and car lift!
Is there a sensor to stop you or more likely a child lowering the lift whilst there is still a car beneath it?

Yep, there is a mechanical lock in place which requires the car to be lifted up two inches first and then lowered whilst simultaneously pressing two buttons. Simply pressing up or down in that instance will do nothing.

That's an excellent garage, Talbir.
A job well done for the builder, and it's a great design, with plenty of space and decent width for each car (unlike the usual "standard" width garage of nowadays )

How is the Hammer project coming along, by the way?

Darren

Almost there..watch out for a new thread....the main bit is done which was restoring the bodywork....all i need to do now is :

- replace the rear exhaust box with the original AMG item (which i sourced from Japan)

- refurb the wheels and replace the two late Aero I's with the early Aero I's

- refurb the two pieces of black wood which are crackly

- fit the AMG bumper tow hook cover which i purchased from MB, HWA part number so that was easy

- and tidy up the headliner and drivers door card

That's it...she's all done then. The drivetrain is amazing ! I tell you, quite simply, she will run rings round a w124 500e ! And that's with her stock Gleason-Torsen 2.24 differential....i have a w126 3.27 differential which i am going to fit (and store the original diff safely)...Hammers were fitted with w126 differentials and the upgrade from 2.24 to 3.27 will shave masses of the acceleration times !!

Look out for a new thread soon....still work to do but the main bit is done which as restoration of bodywork. She was extremely good when we stripped her...we took all the doors off, the sunroof, the bootlid, the entire AMG bodykit....and all that was bad were the two front wings, the side sills and the rear arches. Fundamentally very good....gleaming like new now.

cheers

Garage looks great! My favourite is the Ferrari

Thanks for the info, Talbir :)

But what's the difference between early and late Aero I's? I thought the there was only one style of Aero I monoblock back then, just with different offsets for the W126/R107 & W124/W201?

Thanks,

Darren

Nah, when AMG changed logo in late 1992 to '///AMG' they still did parts for the w124 and w126 homolgated with that signature...hence you can get AMG Aero I's with the late AMG signature, so instead of 'AMG' you get '///AMG'. Which would be fine if the car was a 1992 onwards, but it's a 1986 car.

Also, the late '///AMG' Aero I's accept standard 70mm MB centre cap, instead of the 60mm metal cap on the early Aero I's which is retained by a clip and 10mm nut from behind the wheel.

Apart from these two differences, the wheels are identical - same offsets and widths, i.e. 8j x 17 in et 11 and 28.

FANTASTIC! I want one, the wife can have her designer kitchen, I'll have the 5 car garage!!

I helped design a garage like this for a mate - he's got some Italian scissor-action car hoist for his Radical.

Excellent.

I love the columns....

I have seen a garage where the owner has one side all glass, so that whichever car he chooses to park in there (he has some very nice cars too) he can view it from the garden next to the indoor swimming pool, sort of like a work of art. He can see it whilst swimming....

Currently sitting in it he has an Enzo.....;)

I have a feeling that's James Dyson (the vacuum chappy).

I have to say the columns are a little bit "McMansion" for me, but if that floats your boat then that's just great;):D

That's pretty impressive, looks like a sound investment if space is at a premium.

John Madejski (Reading FC owner & founder of the AutoTrader empire) has something similiar at his pad although I think his glass wall faces his lounge.

I love the columns too.....! Had to match the garage to the house, which also has 4 columns at the front with slate tiles and rendering....:bannana:
