Hi folks

I am a recent purchaser of a lovely 2000 CLK convertible, and have a bit of a problem with my electric seats. My switch (on the door) to adjust the driver's seat doesn't want to move it in a couple of directions (backrest up, base forwards). The motors are working fine, as the Memory buttons move the seats in these directions - which would suggest to me that there's something up with the switch.

Is this a common problem? (I couldn't find much on a search)
Is it just a case of taking the door card off and cleaning up the contacts on the switch? Is there a guide for this?
Are replacement switches available?
Is it likely to be something else?

Cheers!

Also (because I'm struggling to see the Edit button), how does the little box of tricks down by the seatbelt buckle work?

I presume it does something with tightening/adjusting the bolsters on the seats? Mine do the square root of nothing on both sides - is this a common problem?

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum.

From you're description it does sound as though it might be the seat switch (as they move properly with the memory function).

Here is a youtube link to removing the door card, it's in French, but it's a good clip that will give you the general idea :-

Personally I like the approach of using cooking utensils for door panel removal :D

The little box of tricks you refer to I presume is one of these :-

If so, I think this is the lumbar support.

The spec on your car is a bit higher than mine, so I can't tell you how it works. BTW I am officially jealous :D

If you've got time post a picture up, I may even turn green

Thanks so much - that's very kind of you!

To tell you the truth, the car has seen (many) better days - the optional extras are probably its best feature! However, the engine, gearbox and bodywork seem solid, so it's due a sympathetic, minor restoration.
