New Aldi Netbook

3yr warranty is nice as is the 250GB HD.

Has anyone tried W7 on an 1.66GHz Atom?

But if you're happy with Windows XP, 1yr warranty and 160GB a similar netbook can be had for £60 less, at under £200.

I'm writing this on a dual core (N330) Atom nettop. It's no ball of fire but it runs W7 OK. I think the Aldi netbook will be a bit underpowered, only single core processor, only 1 GB RAM (my main concern - my nettop has 4GB), and the on-board graphics are a bit weedy.

I think it will be slow. But, if portability wins out over performance, it's your call. Otherwise, consider a nettop - this is what I bought:

Play.com (UK) : Acer Aspire Revo R3610 / Intel Atom Dual Core 330 1.6GHz / 4GB / 500GB / Windows 7 Home Premium / Nettop Desktop PC (92.NVFYZ.U2N) : Computing - Free Delivery

It doesn't come with a display, but does have a wireless keyboard and mouse (surprisingly good, once you get over the Fisher-Price looks). If you do go for this, expect to spend a couple of hours removing all the crapware that comes pre-installed - it took 3 and a half minutes to boot out of the box! Getting rid of the crap got that down to 1 min 10.

Cheers,

Gaz
