New battery required

Why not use a trickle charger to keep it topped up. I recently got a new battery for my SL60, it was £80.00 with a five year warranty.

Vauxhall batteries are good, & reasonably priced, certainly cheaper than halfords etc

I could do Ian but have the feeling that if it's starting to show signs of exhaustion, it's time for a new one.

i second bosch silver.
my factor also swears by Yuasa batteries, i have one on the S430 and my little truck

Bought Bosch from ATS last year £83 fitted with 4 year guarantee. Car only used about once every fortnight for about 5 miles, had no starting problems.

Mercedes are offering some massive discounts on batteries at the moment, try your local MB parts dept, you may be surprised how cheap they are.

Thanks for that tip Nick. 62Ah for £46 inclusive. Going in to pick it up later. :thumb:

Yep I have to agree- got a great deal on wipers and battery recently. Have Merc dealers finally woken up to financial reality?!?!?

I meant both....get a new battery and keep it in good condition with a trckle charger.

i got a battery with 4 years warranty for performancebatteries.com i think i paid £60. well worth it imo!

Yup if there's a mains supply where you park the car a 'maintenance' charger is invaluable. My SL is hooked up to one whenever it's not being driven

Batteries start to suffer damage below 12.4V - they need to be kept fully charged for maximum life. There's also the convenience factor of knowing it's ready to go anytime.

MB Stratford just quoted me £100.20 for my E230 Estate - P reg. That's with a 20% discount from usual price of £126. Both prices include VAT.

Where do I get one for £46??

And there are solar chargers if you don't have easy access to a power supply.

This one does the biz: Sunsei Solar trickle charger: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

Small solar chargers can help a bit, but they're often not powerful enough to keep even a fully charged battery topped up. The one linked above is only 2.25 watts ... about 17 mA charge current in bright sunlight (less than that most of the time, and obviously nothing at all overnight).

The normal maintenance charge rate for a 75 AH battery (for example) is about 75 mA.

MB Edinburgh I'm afraid. Price probably subsidised under the Barnett Formula.;) No no no; sorry bout that. Your price will have a London weighting applied.

Actually, mine is a pretty small battery and I'm sure the discount offered is much more than the 20% you quote.

I was surprised to be given 20% off .. but not enough.

Not sure my car needs a new battery, was just taking precautions, but not at £100!

We have had a few folks telling us how Mercedes-Benz Commercial sell batteries at far cheaper than the car division. It might be worth checking out
