New C-class - Please advise me :)

I have chosen to rent/lease my C250 as there is not a cat in hells chance I could buy one with as big a discount and sell it after two years for the amount the lease will cost.

As others have said purchasing outright/PCP or leasing all have their advantages/disadvantages but I never close my mind to the choices.

This time the C class was super cheap on a lease but the next car may be better to buy outright or use a PCP to gain an extra discount.

Obsidian black looks fantastic. How is it in terms of showing swirl marks etc though?

I'm really liking the diamond silver, I like the fact it looks different under different lighting conditions, it's very unusual.

The number of threads I've seen on the 4 car forums I frequent saying "how do I get a decent shiny finish on a black car?". Seems to be the worst colour for OCD detailers! Never had one, so no personal experience - but my first MB was silver, it never looked too dirty - but even after wash, clay, polish and wax it never looked really superb - whereas my red and blue Porsches do, as does the current Carneol Red MB.

Guys what are your views on the Sport vs AMG Line trim levels?

I love the look of the front of the AMG Line, however, I am worried that the stiffer suspension and 18in wheels may lead to a harsher ride. I know you could work around this by ordering the Airmatic suspension system, but all these little add ons keep pushing up the price. So I will be on the standard steel coils. Also does this car use fluid filled bushes?

Any opinions would be apreciated?

Cheers.

ps, I also found the the black headlining in the AMG Line made the cabin feel somewhat closed in.

First time post so Hello everyone!!

The discounts are possible, I've had two dealers confirm on a C220 Estate discounts of 7k! Which is impressive.

This has now put me in the possible market for one, I've currently a Skoda and believe it or not with the crazy prices of Skoda now days the Merc is only £2k more!!

The suspension on the AMG trim is good, but the tyres are shocking. Noisy and harsh riding run-flats.

I can't get comfy in the seat either, it's too narrow for me and the side bolsters dig into my hips on long journeys.

The black headlining can be oppressive, but you get used to it. Having the Premium pack with the glass roof helps a lot, but not if you're tall. You lose nearly an inch of headroom. I have to have the seat on it's lowest setting and I'm only 6 foot 2.

I'd suggest test drive the exact spec (I didn't drive one with the glass roof), and testing for a long time. My 30 minute drive didn't tell me at all what the car would be like for 4 hours that I normally drive for. Expensive mistake in my case as it's leased for two years.

Thanks for the replies. I think the Sport with premium plus pack would be the choice for me. I'm exactly 6ft so should be ok. One of my main priorities is a smooth/quiet ride. Unfortunately ordering Airmatic would push the price upwards of what i'm happy to spend and genuine leather seats are a must for me.

If there's an optional for a real spare wheel and non-runflat tyres, I'd go for that. That'll make a lot more difference to the noise level. It's not a noisy car, but the standard run flats are.

Oh, and unless you want the Burmester stereo, I wouldn't bother with the 'Plus' pack. The satnav isn't very good at all. Yes, it has live traffic, but the software is very poor compared to a standard TomTom or Garmin. It's directions can be very confusing and it doesn't show simple things like distance to next turning.

The Burmester is amazing though.

I know what you mean with the AMG LINE. I think for ultimate Mercedes ride comfort you are better off with the sport. That also seems to be the verdict of most reviews. I however have ordered an AMG line in black because the big kid in me took over when ordering and I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of comfort for the looks. Coming from a long line of Impreza Sti's anything will feel more comfortable anyway!

Colour wise I love black and think it looks good with the AMG pack. Palladium silver would have been my second choice, then met white. I too looked at tenorite but for me it was to much of a blue grey. To be fair, there aren't really any bad colours from what I cAn see so it's just personal choice.

2 weeks and counting for me !!!!!!

Interesting. If you're talking about the COMAND sat nav, I can only assume from what you say that it has changed since my 2012 model. I now find it much better than TomTom (perhaps just what you get used to) and it does have a useful graphic showing the distance to turnings. The only confusing bit (until you're used to it) is the announcement to "Keep right" when approaching a filter to the left lane on a motorway that you don't want. Perhaps that's what lots of cars do and accounts for people moving to the outside lane unnecessarily!

As for the colour of the car - go for what YOU like best. Other people's opinions have nothing to do with it.

Yes, COMAND online in the plus pack. It doesn't show the next move, you need to wait for it to tell you, and I certainly can't find anything in the setting to do it. I don't mean the count down bar either, but a graphic that shows the direction and distance to the next maneovre, like TomTom does. E.g., a right turn in 5 miles. The lane choice is interesting, particularly on motorway roundabouts where it always tells you turn left onto the island, even if you're going right. Funny the first time, not the next few times in busy traffic when you need to get over five lanes. Compared to my previous TomTom Go Live 1005 it's very poor and not a patch on the new Go 5000/6000. It also doesn't recognise some postcodes that the TomTom does, and it's not like they're new. I'm pretty sure central Kingston-upon-Thames has been there for a pretty long time! All in all, I don't think its an option that's worth the money. The rest of the Internet connectivity is an interesting toy, but of little value given it doesn't work with an iPhone on the latest OS. Obviously there aren't many of them in circulation so no need for support.

Plus I'm a little jaded as it all failed after the car was only three weeks old and had to go into Mercedes to be 'reset'.

The Burmester stereo is good though. If you're an audiophile, then the Plus pack can easily be justified with that, but I'm not, I'm a techie and bought it for that.

Wow, that's bad. In what way does it not work with the latest iPhone software? I have an iPhone 6 and during the time I would have the car (4-5 years) will likely upgrade to a future generation one.

Just can't get it to connect to the internet through the phone. There's various threads on here and on MBWorld discussing it. Some people have had success, I've not been one of them. Other phones connect fine.

i wonder if there is a software update available for it that can be installed by the dealer? Hope you manage to get it working soon.

When Mercedes fixed it on Friday (no traffic info, comms module failure, and vibrating steering wheel) they said they updated all the software on the car, so I'll have another go at some point.

Don't get me wrong, many aspects it's an extremely good car, I'm just a little disappointed with mine. It's not quite as good as I was expecting it to be, and as it's my first ever new car, it stings a little. I'm sure in time I'll be happier with it.

I did a quick search as you said and it appears that quite a few people on O2 are having the issue with establishing the data connection (not just iPhones). This worries me a little as I am on giffgaff (who use O2). I like the idea of the command online and it was one of the toys I was looking forward to. I would be interestd to hear if you get it connected. Does the data connection have to be via Bluetooth or do you set your phone up as a wifi hotspot?

Thanks.

I'm also on Giffgaff.

I've tried with Bluetooth, and with a direct connection using a lightning cable. With the phone hotspot enabled you get a connection established (blue bar at the top of the screen), but the Comand says it can't connect. To be honest, I have little patience with such things these days. Simple things like a DUN connection should just work instantly, the technology isn't remotely new. If my phone can talk to my watch, my computer and even my heating system, it should be able to talk to my car with me faffing around with settings!
