New C300h Hybrid Owner - no start/stop or electric even on Eco?

Don't think you can get the outside temp to display as the owners manual says not available in the Uk as required to show km/h

Thanks I thought I read that a software update changed that but I will double check. Sean

Well I have only had mine a week and haven't really had chance to give it a good run but did get to see 70% charged today and mine keeps using the electric only down to about 30%

I can get the battery up over 80% but the stop/start isn't cutting in as I would expect it to

I had a E300h on test where the stop start etc cut in at the start of the test but then stopped, wouldn't even cut the engine coasting downhill.

The sales guy spoke to their service dept and came back with an explanation that the main car battery (not the hybrid battery) is likely depleted from standing around the car lot and all the stop/start and sail functions wouldn't work until the battery was fully charged.

Perhaps your main battery still needs charged or is past it's best? (Assuming of course there is any merit in the above!)

Managed to get out for a drive today, battery up in 80% area and the stop/start still only kicked in I think ONCE on an hour and a half journey with plenty of chances to do so. Even dropped it from Comfort to Eco mode to encourage it, and turned the air con off.

Had one jolt as well around 2nd gear. And I can't get the outside temp to show, only the Km per hour. So, all in all, I think I need a software update.

In other news, figured out the Auto Park for parallel parking, good fun and could be handy whilst I transition from the Z4. Need to try reversing into a shopping mall space next with it.

Next MB test will be MB servicing, which I haven't read a lot of good things about so far I must say. My nearest is the service only centre at MB Stratford, East London. Wish me luck.
Your car is showing classic symptoms of needing the gearbox software update,on a 90 Mille trip to my daughters recently I got 24+ bonus(electric mode bonus miles)and 50+ mpg(mixed driving),I would get the car into your nearest mb dealer.

I tried to book in to my nearest 2 MB dealers but was booked in to one on the wrong side of London to get in earlier, on 8th December. I realised today it just wasn't practical so rang to change to my nearest. 23rd Dec was offered but not ideal. So I am now booked in for 20th January 2017. Will keep you posted.

Stop/start and electric is cutting in sometimes now but nowhere near what I'd expect for a hybrid. Think you can see the amount of electric use in the dash settings somewhere? Oh, and can you show the temp on the C300h anywhere, somehow?

Tried without success to show the outside temp-maybe they know how via star or something when your cars in January,in the service menu under settings you can see how many bonus(electric/coasting miles you have had during a current journey, for example,on Saturday I drove back home from London late evening and light traffic and mostly dual carriageway/motorway and got 19.4 electric miles out of a 94 mile journey-starting to master the feathering of the throttle pedal now!;)

Likewise did a 400 round trip to Windsor this weekend and got close on 100 bonus miles.

There is the option to change the temp display but doesn't appear to work as it still shows the km/h speed. The manual does say it is not available in the U.K. I find it frustrating too!

Interesting thread to newbie forum member.
I have an E300h from new and with 42k now on the clock have progressively had hybrid engage problems starting soon after purchase.
Every time the dealer says nothing on the logs and when in their workshops always ran perfectly.
Last week the drive would never come into hybrid mode, like ever, and they reported a new low voltage battery necessary which now has hybrid working.
I have asked for an explanation as to why this seemingly unrelated problem appears to fix and await their reply.

I have a lot more on this but sharing info will be great.

What worries me is why Mercedes do not push hybrid as the greatest thing. F1 cars are hybrid and when working I regularly get over 55mpg and have had over 70.

If it's of any help, the first C350e cars didn't show the outside temp without a software update. Even then it only shows it on one Trip screen. Might be the same for the C300h.

Having speed in km/h showing permanently is a complete waste of time. Yes, it should be there as an option in case you travel abroad, but for most people it would be much more useful to always show the outside temp.

Will throw up queries as I got them on this thread, so will be about a bit more than stop/start and electric. But it does seem that as the main feature of the Hybrid there are certainly a few issues relating to this.

So with that said

1. Reversing mirror - goes down fine bit takes ages (a few seconds) to come back up when you change from R to D. IS that normal? Not the end of the world but seems like forever when you are waiting to go

2. Keyless Go - what happens if 2 sets of keys are in the car at the same time? The wife usually has hers in her handbag even if not driving. What key does it choose?! Could try it, sure it won't blow the car up, but was curious and couldn't find anything searching.

Cheers!

Sean

225 miles to Dorset and back this weekend. Stop start did not happen once and no electric at all so I definitely have a problem. Hopefully will be sorted in January.

Haven't got the passenger mirror doing that so need to look in the manual to configure it.

As for two keys in the car my wife always has her key with us when we travel together and no issues. I have no idea which one it uses though. But no issues with having two keys in the car at he same time.

I wonder if it is due to some recent update. I bought my C300h in April 2015 and last winter both the start and stop and the hybrid function were working fine. However, since the start of the cold season this year I started experiencing the same issue as you, even after long journeys: the battery charges up to 89%, but the diesel engine is always running, even when the car is stationary and in Economy mode.

I had a similar issue with the start & stop function on my previous car (2010 Audi A4) and the root cause then was a faulty aircon sensor.

Tomorrow my C300h will be checked by the dealer and I'll definitely let you know the outcome.

Fingers crossed ...

PROBLEM SOLVED (at least for me): MB Chester replaced under warranty a faulty battery in the boot and now both the start & stop and the hybrid functions work perfectly. I have been told that the battery that got replaced was not the expensive hybrid cell, but the standard one.

I also want to take this opportunity to highlight the excellent service that I received from the MB Chester dealer.

Thanks for the feedback useful info and in line with other info I have read. There wasn't a fault code or anything like that with your paperwork was there (that might help me when I am speaking with my dealer)?

If any c300h owners have similar issues I would get the car into a main dealer ASAP as the hybrid battery is expensive to replace-I've heard something like £4k?

But it is the normal battery that is causing the problems it seems

Yes, the hybrid battery is still fine... which is good, as it costs about 8k to replace!

I have been told that the issue was with the "standard battery in the boot" (whatever that is), which costs only £200 and in my case got replaced under warranty.

The technician did not disclose the details, but he definitely mentioned that a fault code had been detected and from what I could gather it was quite a straight forward fix.

If that helps, my car had about 16k miles on the clock when the issue first appeared.

In any case, now everything works perfectly and the car drives like a charm :-)

That's your conventional 12 volt battery like in a "normal" car. Once they can't maintain their voltage they send the electronic systems bonkers. I had it on my last car and the central locking constantly locked and unlocked. Everytime it unlocked I was repeatedly "Bonged" by the dashboard telling me every door/bonnet/boot were open. It was not a peaceful journey! :wallbash:

Glad you got it sorted easily.
