Hello,

I have a new car which was delivered to the dealership in March before the lockdown.
This was a cash purchase and is paid for. Given I won’t be receiving delivery any time soon would it be fair to ask the dealer for some goodwill when they do eventually reopen? I appreciate it’s a tough time for all. Would would be reasonable to ask for?
Thanks

Isn't that up to you to decide?

You paid for a car before it was built or delivered?

Be thankful the dealership isn't charging you storage fees..... Or are they?? 🤔
Storage? The dealer principle will be punting about in it, then roll back the speedo. Free cars are the fastest cars. 🤣

Paid for car once it was with them. We’re talking almost £45k in their account leaving the P/X. Yes I know they will honour the P/X even thought it has another couple of months depreciation.
And of course no storage fees have been mentioned.

I think as you still have use of your 'old' car any goodwill must surely be in them honouring the original p/x valuation?

Ouch.

Is the car actually registered - if not then technically it hasn't started down the depreciation curve yet and warranty may be an issue? So arguably you are not actually losing anything. If it is registered then you are losing out if you plan to only keep the car for 2 or 3 years.

But seriously - how on earth did you end up paying the balance before you went in to pick it up?

I think some dealers will struggle to re-open after this. They make no money as it is.

Their overheads must be massive, the banks will be twitchy no doubt.
