New Car - W213

Why do you think the 212 looks dated ? I've got 2 and they look pretty ok to me.

Sorry Harry, only just seen your post. :thumb:

I love the front of the 212, especially with the ILS. But I really think the rear looks dated. Mainly the rear light clusters.

Ant.

Just as I'm pulling all my finances together to shell out for one... :(

Obviously I'm going to be biased by my means, but I really like the 212, especially the front. Really angular and mean looking.

Sorry Mike. Didn't mean to offend. We have a 212, and still love it.

I think many cars soon look dated after the new model has been out a while. Even more so on the interior.

Okay, I am biased, but I think that the rear of the W212 facelift is much nicer than the W213 which looks a bit soft and unresolved. That said, I'm sure the W213 is a cracking car.

That looks nice Mark, maybe I need a E63 for the exhausts alone. :o

I have changed my 2015 W212 220 Bluetec SE for a 2017 W213 220d SE, the new engine and gearbox is a lot more efficient, very easy to get 60MPG on the motorway v 52MPG.

I miss the ILS, and the audio sounded better in the W212, but the interior feels more modern, a few things missing from the Sat Nav like route step by step, no motorway mode showing the junctions.

Noted for new build now you can order the ILS as a separate option, rather than having to order the Premium plus pack. But overall an improvement and a progression of improvement in a number of areas, but a w212 E63 still looks and sounds very impressive

Certainly not offended, and not by your comment in any case, more the reasliation that people are starting to see them as a tad dated looking.

I suppose it depends on the kind of cars you're using to seeing. If in an affluent area there's a lot of new, expensive metal driving around, you'd see an older model looking more dated.

Where I live, the W204 still looks modern, smart and expensive. When I pull up at my local shops, the car is almost always the most expensive and upmarket looking car there, next to the Yaris' with multi-coloured body panels. There aren't many Mercs around other than 203s and 210/211 and there are a lot of new cars, but they're all Fiestas and Micras.

There's a W212 E350 a few streets away, and people gossip about the owner.

I don't know who they think they are at number 32, with their big flash motors. All fur coats and no knickers.

The first Mercedes I test drove was an E220d and whilst the interior and tech were fabulous, the front classy with the new headlights, unfortunately the overall shape was too generic for me, particularly the rear.

And for me the W213 lacks presence. The late W212 models have it, with a great rear end too.

I have to agree the saloon rear is a little..... undefined lets say, but as I always go for the estate which I think is the better looking car anyway its not an issue.:thumb:

I've moved from an S212 facelift to an S213 and still think the exterior of the 212 is spot on even now.

The interior on the other hand, the 213 has caused the 212 to age a lot in this regard.

Music to my ears.

The 213 does seem to look odd. The 205 looks like a baby 222, but the 213 doesn't. It looks a bit like the CL somehow, just doesn't slot into the range very well.

I've not seen a S213 IRL yet.

Two thoughts, I think it looks smart, but isn't the bottom from the rear wheels to the back of the car a bit too sloped? Looks like it's got range rover ground clearance at the back. Also, looks a bit "audi" somehow.

All fur coats and no knickers.

As long as the fur coat is fake rather then real it sounds like a very desirable situation :bannana:

On a more serious note I'm enjoying my W211 and looking forward to a W213 but have to wait around 4 years for the depreciation to bring them into budget.

Am I the only one who prefers the W212?

Ah, the imagery, reminds me of a London girlfriend in the 80s!
