I had a look (laying on the floor looking up!) - and the ambient lighting strips seem to be fitted into the wooden door trims. Does anyone know if these are, or could be connected to work as an after fitment. It did not come with ambient lighting. Thanks.

Hi, did you manage to get anywhere with this. I would like to know as I have the same car and would like to activate the ambient lighting if its possible.
Regards Ken Care

The ambient light strips are not in there (the LEDs). The LED strips are available, but it is not clear whether these can be fitted to panels that did not have led strips in them (as the part number for all the trim pieces for cars with ambient lighting is different to without).

After you have solved that issue, you then need the wiring to connect those strips to whatever powers them. In the case of the doors it is the door controllers in each door, so nice short piece of cable. In the case of the dashboard, I suspect but have never checked that it connects to the front SAM.

Then lots of programming etc.

However, the biggest issue of all of that is "will the replacement LED strips fit in the standard trims".

Ambient Lighting should really be standard in the 218 CLS .. it is on most of the 212s

Hi Richard,
I have now emailed Mercedes directly. I’ve a response and they have asked for my CLS chassis number. Am now waiting for a reply.
Regards Ken Care.

I have just bought a 2013 CLS and also do not think I have the ambient lighting. It is not in the settings but I too have looked under and it look like they are there.

I feel like I should have them as they should come in the package with some of the other things I have. I have the AMG pack, Piano Black trim, Aubergine seats, Sunroof, i.e. looks to be the Luxury package.

If not, wouldn't the car have the wiring loom etc for plug and play? Then a bit of star coding for the dash menu?

There is no spare wiring there. And in most cases to add it is a pig (lots of wiring and configuration, and new wood trim with the ambient lighting inbuilt.

I'm actually thinking about doing this myself to my CLS 63 2012 which I recently purchased. It has the glass but no fiber optic strip.

I'm going to find out the prices tomorrow for the parts.

Richard are you able to do this if I get the parts? Looking at EPC diagrams, I think it must connect to a unit nearby (maybe door control unit)?

I also need a rear view camera installed, can you PM me a price for these both

thanks

sambam, pls can you see your vin to Alfie via Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk ?

The door ones plug into DCM but custom wiring needed. The dashboard into front Sam but this is a bit of a pig.

I've never tried to make non il trims work with the il optics, so can I suggest just buying one front door part first and then see if that can physically be installed?

Cheers

Hi Richard, Thanks.

I popped into Mercedes benz of MK today and they gave me a quote for all four doors, pins and connectors.

The actual fibre optical is only £6.75 each (Doors), connectors, pins etc is a further £20-30.

It's a non stock item and I have ordered one which will take 4-7 days delivery from Germany.

The front long led strip on EPC was only for left hand side cars and not right side so the parts guy is doing further queries.

Holy thread revival!

Just found this by looking on Google to research the ambient lighting on the CLS, as mine doesn't seem to have it. I'm amazed the MB left it out of the CLS, at least as standard. Such a pity, as I feel even the ambient lighting on my W211 was better.
