New compressor needed.

The compressor I use to inflate my car tyres finally blew up yesterday, was working fine then changed tone to a high-pitched scream so I suppose a valve or a seal went inside, it was rubbish anyway .

Anyone got any recommendations as to where I should get a decent compressor from and where?

I was wondering if any of the oem offerings were worth looking at...

LIDL were selling off a stockload of compressors worth £50 for £9.

Probably all gone now - but no harm in checking.

i ahve one that was bought from argos a few years ago that you jsut tell it the tyre pressure you want, switch it on and it stops when it gets to that pressure, was cheap if i recall

may be worth a look, i will get the manufacturer later, its int he car and its bloody cold out there

Argos still sell a few that sound exactly like that, around £20ish.

If they're actually any good then I might buy one

Jeez, like sym I thought this was a Kompressor related thread. Hehe I should have known better and that it would have been in the engine section if true.

Umm Maplin usually do decent kit at very competitive prices.

Replacement tyre inflation device would have been a more suitable subject

From memory, the one that one the "which best buy" was the Michelin one in Halfords. About £30 or thereabouts. HERE

I have one myself, seems accurate with a digital guage and auto shut off at the required pressure & comes with adapters for other things like airbed and stuff - oh, and a torch. Fits in the wheel well with the wheel too. My only criticism is that it is a bit on the slow side.

Cheers, Sp!ke, that looks pretty good! I've seen that for sale elsewhere, although not quite as cheap as Halfords. I will visit my local halfords tomorrow, see if they have one in stock, otherwise I'll buy online.

My only criticism is that it is a bit on the slow side.

The one that just broke on me took FOREVER to inflate the tyres, made a huge amount of noise and the gauge basically fluttered around the 40psi level all the time, regardless of the actual pressure, the casing was also split around the gauge so it was half hanging-off .

Ive got one from halfords , cost about £20 , think its £25 now.

It inflated a tire from flat in 4 min up to the correct pressure (32psi from memory)

its really good and worth the money.. From memory , it won the autoexpress test on the best pump

My local garage has recently started charging 20p for air,disgracefull-is there any way i can use the Kompressor under my bonnet to pump my tyres up..

I recently purchased a Wolf electric 2 HP compressor via my work but also purchased a blow gun and tyre inflator very useful for blowing up the tyres on the van, my car and the wifes Micra. All the tyres were under inflated especially on the Micra and the steering is much lighter now. Just goes to show. My cheap 12 volt inflater has always been rubbish and very noisy.
