Hiya everyone,

Just a thought...

If the DVLA (and its agents) don't have to physically check your car windscreen anymore for road tax validity then surely there is no need for the paper circle to be displayed.

Maybe its time to remove it for the benefit of extra visibility... :p

I drove past a police car on Friday, it was parked in a layby just off the A627(M) on the way into Rochdale. There was an odd-looking camera contraption standing next to the car, with a big sign under it which read: "Tax Disc Inspection Camera" or something. The idiot in front of me still slammed his brakes on though, we weren't even going as fast as the speed limit never mind over it!

LOL

The offence still exists for 'failing to display a valid licence disc' iirc.

I guess that is the only way the totally illegal driver will ever get intercepted (if they have not registered the car, no insurance, photocopied tax disc etc). It'll be good to see that problem solved.

Ian.

On you tax disk is a bar code. That is what they scan. I have drawn a line between two upright bars on the tax holder. They can scan it but cant read it. Yes I know its not quite right but One has to make a stand. BTW tax disk has not been defaced as the drawn line is on the holder not the disk itself.

Hi,

I thought these cameras scanned the number plate and then checked with DVLA computer for tax/no tax/insurance etc. Don't think cameras can yet scan barcodes on windscreen of moving vehicle? (cf problems at supermarket checkouts!!).

I stand to be corrected.

Cheers,

Dieter

Stop it Ian, your giving me ideas !! Just think about it. Some poor DVLA computer with go 'CPU critical' trying to work out if your legal or not. :D :D

I thought the bar code was there just for the post office when the issue them, the camera's don't scan them.
