New E53 delayed, spec reduced

Hi , I understand your frustration but my car has the best head lights I have ever had on any car.

I would not purchase a car with inferior heads lights.
I agree. The ILS (or similar) is definitely something I’d be without.

100% - they are like magic. Fantastic when you drive in the middle of the night with automatic highbeams and you watch it do its magic when it 'dances' around to exclude oncoming traffic and others. Or just the 'dance' when they turn own and like a curtain start to illuminate the world lol .. For me probably the biggest deal breaker ...

So you want X with toys, and after messing you around you can have X but no toys and we will mess you around a bit more, o you want compensation for messing you around. "No u take what i will give you." TELL THEM TO POKE IT when you want to sell it the person looking to buy it will want all the toys also and walk away. Anyone can be taken for a fool its wether you are or not.

Is taking delivery of it and selling it without even driving it an option ? the new owner can collect it from the MB dealer after buying it from you via a broker or even private sale by yourself.

The car market is a pretty nutty place at the moment. That of course will not help you with your ULEZ dilemma.

IF you find a new owner. ESPECIALLY without those extras. I don't know how the OP pays for it, but if it is a lease or loan it will complicate things even more so.

This one's nice...

So's this...

And with only 19.5k miles on the clock, this has got to be worthy of a second look too...

I agree. I known basically nothing about all of these PCP deals etc ...but the way MB are treating the OP shows me they do not give a $hit if he cancels his order , they know full frucking well the car will not sit in their inventory for long . My guess is they will get more for it than he has already agreed to pay and might even have a buyer for it already.

Why else would they be playing 'hardball' with him ??

If the car hasn't been built yet, then the dealer should be able to use the build slot for another customer (with different spec), and I'm sure they'll have quite a few waiting customers who wouldn't mine getting ahead in the queue.

It's the OP that suggested an E63, then backtracked a little. I say, find the spec you want and try it. If you don't fancy it then flip it... chances are that in this market you won't lost much money doing so!

I have been in a new E63S for the last week and the ride is pretty decent in Comfort mode. Not crashy. It's true that you wont find many occasions to blast it at full throttle between 3000 and 5000 rpm, especially if you live in London. But when you do, it's fun. I suppose it comes down to whether you think that's worth it. Cost wise it would probably be cheaper to pay the ULEZ on your existing car til you found a suitably specced E53.

I think you could sell your place in the queue to a car dealer, there is a garage near me* who sells over list price to people who don't want to wait 6-12months for a new car, then take your money and extra from selling your place and buy something else.. I think the car dealers are greedy and rude, not to mention disrespectful to expect you to accept your "new pair of shoes without laces" so to speak... I would and have in the past walked away from a crappy deal.

Nobody 'needs' a new car we sometimes just want one, and confuse the two...

Hearing a few stories like this. Personally, the whole point of ordering a new car is to spec exactly the car you want. Now, you aren't getting exactly the car you want. I say cancel the order and look around for something else you fancy (despite the undeniable extra cost, I highly doubt you'd ever regret an E63s, just my opinion).

Additionally, if you were to take the car, when it comes to selling it eventually it'll be worse probably be worth quite a bit less than a car built before this issue that has these extra items, even though you are paying the same for it just now. Would the free servicing make up for that? Doubt it.

I’ve had a look around an E53 estates are like rocking horse sh*t! Impossible to find.
You and I are in the same boat - only difference is that you have a build date, i've got no information at all. There was a lovely e53 estate at MB Boston but wasnt to my spec. I can see my order being cancelled if they try pull the same on me that they have you. Let's hope MB SouthWest start improving their comms.

I am also waiting on a new order, a C63S in my case. I know my dealer well and they genuinely have no idea about when orders will be fulfilled. They say even confirmed build dates can change without them knowing. The comms issue goes all the way up the line. Which doesn't excuse any of the OPs concerns, but in terms of dates, you can forgive them for not wanting to tell every customer "We actually don't have a clue when your car will arrive".

I wouldn’t put it past them. I read somewhere that in the US they’re changing all new E63S orders into E53 ones, which can’t be true!

I’m test driving a 2019 E63S on Friday. Less than 10k on the clock and only a couple of £k more than a new E53. More costly to run but will hopefully hold its value well given I imagine the days of a big V8s are numbered. I’m so annoyed about the E53 order though - first time I’d ever ordered a new car!

I bargained pretty hard and got them to knocks a few thousand off the asking price. I am sure they will be able to flog it for more than what I had agreed to pay. The thing is, it hasn't even entered production yet so I don't know whether they'll still progress with the order.

Absolutely - and I feel sorry for the dealerships. I can deal with the delays (although it was getting a bit interesting with the delivery date now AFTER the ULEZ is extended, meaning my current car will be seriously costly to operate, at least for a few days), but the spec change was the straw that broke the camel's back. The dealer was pretty poor though and only ever got in touch after I'd emailed them - never of their own volition.
