New E53 delayed, spec reduced

They confirmed the service pack was worth £37 pm. So over two years that's £888. Which doesn't even come close to offsetting the missing items.

Funnily enough, I am test driving an E63S at that dealership tomorrow... I haven't yet cancelled the E53 (I wanted to have something else to replace it with sorted before I did so) but might mention that to them. Agreed on the new car point - it was kind of a treat after a pretty brutal year at work!

So that first one, with 5k miles on the clock, and in the basic spec, is the same price (give or take £850) as the brand new E53 Night Edition Premium Plus I'd ordered. Which is mental.

Very frustrating, but.....a blessing in disguise maybe?! If you end up with an E63S I'm pretty sure you'll be grinning from ear to ear and forget about the E53 pretty quickly! Good luck!

E63S test drive is tomorrow now - didn't have time to get up to the dealership and back today, annoyingly.

On a separate note, I found this E53 up for sale for £69k.

Amusingly, when I rang the show room earlier (I was in the neighbourhood having test driven a BMW 540i), they said they didn't have an E53 for sale. Go figure.

My brand new E53 on order (which I'm not cancelling until I've found a replacement) is costing me £65k. I bargained pretty hard to get it for £6k less than list price (which was looking like a fantastic deal when it was fully specced), but the fact that an older car with almost 4,000 miles on the clock is going for £4k more is absolutely bonkers.

That is a nice looking E63S though - if I could, I'd happily take that. You could probably drive that home next weekend!

I originally ordered a C43 back in 2019 with a lot of options, and after an awkward period of silence I chased the dealer to see how it was going.

They apologised and said it wasn't possible due to a shortage of components so I reluctantly cancelled it. Two weeks later I talked to them about a C63S in Watford, and somehow I ended up buying an in stock C63 from them instead.

It was nothing like my spec, but I'm so pleased I did it. I don't think the running costs are that different to a C43 (I may be wrong there, but I didn't really care about that) and whomever originally spec'd it up did a fantastic job.

After two years, despite rattles and a few now resolved issues, I still love this car to pieces. It just brings a smile to me, and I enjoy every moment when driving it.

I don't think I got any special discount or deal, but I was happy, they apologised and were clearly a good sales person despite the communication hiccup.

Not sure if that helps persuade you or not, but you're only here once 🙂

That's actually really useful to hear, and I'm so glad you've enjoyed your C63S.

The E63S was ridiculous, as I suspected it would be. It put a smile on my face the moment I started it up. That engine is pornographic. The ride, even in comfort, was arguably the wrong side of 'firm' for a family car, but I can probably live with that. I had a decent 30 minutes in it hooning around St. Albans, both on open roads and in some heavy traffic on residential streets, so it gave me a decent idea of how it would perform across a range of roads.

Fundamentally I know it's a stupid option - it will drink petrol, cost more to insure, will be less comfortable for passengers, and I'll rarely have the opportunity to probably unleash it - but is very, very tempting. And as you say, you only live once - I had enough near misses in Afghanistan to appreciate that!

I can't shake the feeling that I would be constantly on edge that my children or dog would scratch / stain / throw up over it though - that it's almost too nice a car to be used to ship them around, or drive to the beach / park / rugby club etc. But then I think how much fun it would be to take the wife away for a long weekend of walking in Wales or the Lakes, and give the car some tap in the process. The 540i would be a much more sensible option, and is still good fun to drive, albeit not in the same league as the E63S. Argh, decisions! The E53 would have been perfect I think (sitting somewhere in between), but that ship is sailed.

I'm going to sleep on it and then decide tomorrow! If anyone has any final views on the usability of an E63S as a family car, (e.g. ride on UK roads, and is the fuel economy really that atrocious?), let me know!

If its any help I bought a s212 e63 earlier in the year. Its the every day car for my self and the missus who regularly uses it for shopping runs or other errands. We don't have kids but have a dog that is happy in the boot apart from occasionally being caught off balance if he stands up lol. We mostly do urban driving or trips into the Peak District and have done a few long motorway trips road the country. I think it's an amazing vehicle and not just the reserve of a weekend toy. Look at the size of them, you can pack a full family and luggage in and travel where ever you want to go in luxury. I was concerned about the ride before I got it but now I don't even think about it. I don't think it's that hard at all but then I believe the 212 might be more compliant then newer versions.

I don't understand the thought process of having to have boring cars for mundane life tasks. Get the car you want and enjoy using it. Im into old jags and daimlers and have run them as my sole transport rain or shine in snow and all over the country. They're made to be used not stored away.

I'd get the e63 and all you will have to worry about is grinning from ear to ear every time you get in. 😀 Just my opinion obviously.
