New Elnath Alloys fitted at last!

I took great pleasure in getting hammer-ons for my battered old 16" sport wheels, *bang* *bang* spirals of paint fell off and it's done

I'm glad they're my winter wheels now, multiple hammer-ons and lots of kerbing has basically destroyed the rim, corrosion and bubbling/flaking paint is eating the face away.

Halfords or your dealer sell lacquer but I've never applied it. Advice anyone?

Re - touching up the rims, I would clean the wheels thoroughly, use a cotton bud and some thinners to remove any grease/dirt, and then touch in the affected area with silver paint (use something like a cocktail stick, much more accurate than the brush supplied with touch-up bottles! ;) )

Try and get a two part silver touch up kit (comes with a bottle of lacquer too), and then apply some laquer to the area in the same method as above.

Once it is all finished and the paint has cured (perhaps give it a few days?), polish the wheels with some decent bodywork polish and apply a layer of wax.

This should hopefully stem the damage and help stop the nasty winter salt getting under the paint!

HTH, :)

Oh, and you can buy touch-up paint from your MB dealer.

If you buy a metallic silver kit in similar colour to your wheels, it will come with laqcuer as well. ;)

Using a cocktail stick and not the brush they supply is a top tip for any 'touch up / stone chip' paint and in this weather heat up the area with a hair dryer before putting the paint on and it won't run anywhere.
