Apologies for the long post..Car developed an unpleasant, to say the least, squeak from nearside front when driving over potholes. (It is not the creak of an old mattress/squeal/whine, none of these). Just a sharp, short iron to iron friction noise.
I can not reproduce it in by pushing the car down, up, sideways, my hands are beginning to ache.
I recently had engine and tranny mounts changed at mb-noise appeared sometime after as it would have been on my observations list definitely. Also renewed tyres, and had alignment done -twice just to make sure nothing moving dangerously. Last two times i washed the car i spayed water behind all the tyres. I removed the rears and cleaned the brake lines with just water because there was mud below and above the clamps. Probably the water washed lubricant away from the rubber joints.
I have tried a lot of silicon spray on any suspension rubber i can see with suspect tyre removed, a lot of wd40 on brakes, pads etc and even some on the ns engine mount since the silicon spray was by then emptied! Now all brake noise gone! Car feels better.
Squeak still there and getting louder!:(
It happens when ns front hits a pothole, but not over bumps:confused: however if i hit a pothole which sets off the squeak then it does it over any bad surface. It stops when car really warms up.

Any ideas before i visit mechanic again?? Is it possible that the mounts need retightening? Exhaust maybe? (I tried to rattle it from below the car but it seems ok. Also can not move any suspension arm or joint.)

Have you checked for broken suspension springs. My car developed similar symptoms which turned out to be broken front spring.

I am not a mechanic.. Just visual check. The car feels and drives ok. Both sides have similar resistance when pushed down or going over speed bumps.

Its unlikely you would feel any difference when pushing down etc. My spring was broken at the top and was only visible when the car was jacked up.

A lower balljoint maybe?

Anti roll bar bushes squeak when worn too.jack the car up and move the anti roll bar upwards and see if your noise is there.

Thanks for the replies.

I will post the solution when i fix this
... I hope soon.

It was the lower ball joint, officially known as steering knuckle joint. Replaced..Noise gone. By the way , noise had developed into a real cacophony...see first post parenthesis!

Please move this post to suspension where it belongs...
