So I was lucky enough to win a termignoni exhaust on ebay for a fraction of the cost of buying it from a dealer... it may be a while before I get it as it's in Italy (and getting shipped to my grandmother in Italy), but I'm already making plans...

The only thing is, I'm told that as this exhaust is VERY different to the stock ones that come with Ducatis (think AMG exhausts vs stock... just out of carbon fibre) I should get a Power commander and get that remapped.

While I don't disagree with the principle; that's another £250-£350 that I don't have right now... My question is, if I were to run without "remapping" the ECU what's the worst that would happen? i.e. would I just not get as much oompf out of the bike, or would I be running so rich that I would clog something up? (or so lean I damaged something?)

TIA,
M.

nothing will happen as long as the back pressure is in the same ballpark.

Hi,
When i had my Fazer 1000 i fitted a Scorpion unrestricted Titanium exhaust can on it and it ran very very lean according to the readings i got from the rolling road people, the solution was to change the hieght of the needle valves but then i had a flat spot at low revs, i found this unbearable and when it was due for its first MOT i replaced the can for the standard one, and reset the needle valves.
In my opinion get it all done at once inc. Power Commander and get it set up on a rolling road, to be safe.

Hmmm... you think mine could be running lean because of my exhaust...?

Totally different backpressures... one is a Ducati road exhaust, with mufflers and DB killer... the new one is a carbon exhaust, with a removeable muffler and no DB killer...

Just found out the dealer does a new ECU for that specific exhaust for £45... that seems like a good compromise... just trying to find out if it's £45 for flashing the firmware of £45 for a new ECU...

Motor bikes engines are generally in a much higher state of tune than car engines 200BHP possible out of 1000cc engines) so changing the exhaust can effect them more, and too be honest your ECU would possibly compensate for the small difference back pressure that you might have, you could always just check the colour of your plugs to be sure.

That seems a bargain, at least till you can afford a power commander, then you can download custom maps etc

What colour would they be if the engine is running lean?

A new ECU for £45? :D

It'll basically be the labour charge for uploading the factory map...they had to do the same for my Arrow pipe on the Speed Triple.
