Car
June 2002 SLK32///AMG. OCT 2007 CLK350 AMG Sport Convertible.
Fitted today at MB main dealership.

I elected to go with standard OEM kit in the end, so £411.00 later the car stops as it should, though I'm taking it gently.

So, what is the consensus here, 200 miles enough to bed in the aforementioned or should I give it a bit more? :)

To be fair, it's an AMG - they're pretty notorious for expensive brake parts.

I'd say that £411 is actually pretty cheap, fitted, for AMG brakes at an MB dealer - I thought some models were about this amount for the parts only!

That sounds expensive!
I had all four done on my E class for £367 with OEM parts.
Ah just seen AMG!!!

Yeah it was on my SLK32AMG - does tend to enhance prices somewhat those three little letters...and I don't mean VAT :( Oh well.

The better news is the rear discs and pads have still got plenty of life in them, as they are only half worn. :)

I changed mine last weekend, they only took about 100 or so miles to bed in fully.

Mine cost £120 all in, not AMG though & no labour costs as I did them myself. :thumb:

Fair play, and of course, you will always save if doing it yourself :thumb:

I read on one of the other forums about a way of bedding them in.

Accelerate to 60mph and brake (not hard) to 10mph. Don't stop completely or the heat will glaze the pads.
accelerate back to 60mph and repeat the process 20(?) times.
Brakes now bedded in.

I was a bit sceptical, but there were other replies to the thread that agreed with this method.
.

I can see why new pads fitted without changing the disks would need to be bedded in, but if both were changed then surely they should mate perfectly from the off?

Exception would be if there was a disk coating, but that comes off almost instantly.

If the brakes are working as they should, what more is there to say? They are brakes and are made to be USED.

Just drive normally for 200 miles with no heavy braking where alot of heat is built up.

Even removing the disc coating before fitting, mine would not stop from 10mph immediately after changing discs and pads. They do need to be bedded in. No emergency stops or hard braking until fully bedded in if you can help it.

We never fit new discs or pads to a truck immediately before mot as they always fail.
Even if the old ones are falling to bits they still give a better reading on the tester.

I would say £400 sounds very very good.
