While welcoming Eurocarparts presence on the forum  together with the discounts they offer it would be remiss to ignore the other national supplier of OEM and pattern parts for Mercedes cars in the UK-namely GSF or German Swedish and French GSF Car Parts | GSF | Hans Motors | TDCS | German and Swedish They have recently launched a new website/online shop GSF | Cheap Discount Car Parts | Euro German Japanese | VW BMW Audi Ford Peugeot which is a vast improvement on their previous effort. Unfortunately this requires registration which is a simple enough process but requires a couple of days to go through due to present demand. It still doesn't equal ECP's visual presentation however but can't be ignored as another valuable source of parts for Mercedes cars/vans.:thumb:

I have used GSF and they are very competitive on price in comparison with ECP and plenty of the parts they stock are OEM too

It was in a branch of GSF that I realised just how doomed we are as a manufacturing nation (tie-in to another thread). I went in for a CV joint for my Golf. The guy behind the counter tapped away for a few seconds and then announced it would be £30. "Really!!!???" I said, for I had been expecting to pay £50-£80. Mistaking my surprise to imply that I thought it was too expensive, he said, "I can do an unbranded one at £17, if that's better for you."

How on earth can a company make something as sophisticated (in terms of machining) as a CV joint, pack it, ship it to the coast, sail it half way round the world, ship it to Kingston upon Thames and all for a price that allows GSF to make a profit?

No wonder we don't make anything any more.

anyway, I have always been impressed with GSF and I think they have the edge over ECP for value.

It costs less to send a 40' container from China to Felixtowe than it costs to get it from Felixtowe to London

It can cost less to fly with Ryanair from Stansted to Italy than it cost to get to Stansted from London...

I bought a bunch of items from an Arab selling Chinese good at a market stall in Italy.

Sun glasses for 3 Euro, professionally-looking binoculars for 5 Euro... makes you think how much does it costs at the factory gate in China...

I find the GSF website a bloody nightmare to use, it almost never tells you who made the parts and you don't get a picture either, i'll stick with Eurocarparts.

Now Mr.ECP how much discount do i get now:D

HaHa!

Imagine a system for a 1% increase in discount for every non-abusive post about ECP

That would be 26% :D

Perhaps in the future they'll raise their prices by 30% and then sponsor every motoring forum in the UK that you have ever heard of and give the lucky members 25% off?

Of course nobody would fall for that...

We only sponsor 25 carefully selected forums with a maximum of 2 of the same Manufacturer :thumb:

At the touch of a button we could have a banner on every forum in the UK but we would loose the personal touch of commenting and supporting the forum

Didn't wish to start a slanging match guys  my post was merely of the
"OTHER SUPPLIERS ARE AVAILABLE" nature that's all. Prompted in the main by their newish website. Room for all suppliers -- the official MB parts counter included :thumb: --- a bit of healthy competition keeps everyone honest and prices down .;)

Is your second name Blofeld by any chance?

Nick - That should be put into the ECP Signature! Love It!

No Slanging here whatsoever! its of great interest to see genuine feedback from you guys! I know that with the MB discount no other factors will be able to touch the price for parts! but its good to see some praise for the site (and its always getting better)

I am naturally suspicous of any parts site that requires 'registration' before I can find out if they have a brake light switch for my son's car. If I walk into the shop they don't demand my name and address before they'll even tell me if they have something, why do they do it on the 'web?

I suppose its a marketing thing, but fairly common for internet sites. I think Inchcape an official Mb site now require you to register to order. Perhaps it's to dissuade the internet equivalent of "tyre- kickers" clogging up their servers speeding up the process for real customers . Many forums require you to register with an E mail contact address at a minimum and send you an acceptance code by E mail before you can become a member. Since immediately you order a part from GSF or ECP they have all your details name address etc I don't really see the problem. Going into a shop is slightly different since they see you/ the colour of your money/ credit card and they don't have to deliver- you take the goods with you having paid.:dk:

Having looked at the threads on this I feel a bit reluctant to comment.
My business supplying parts was founded on both my experience and enjoyment of th MB Marque, it was also based on being a member of this very forum. I have sometimes bent over backwards to try and help other members find parts at a good price, on occasions making little or no profit.
Of course, having an interest in the MB marque is what caused me to join as a member in the first place, there was no ulterior motive to sell parts, it just happened because I was in a position to do so and wished to help other members.
Since then, I have expanded the business and moved into new premises as some of you will already know.
I am however somewhat disgruntled to find that having politely asked the admins on more than one occasion to be able to 'advertise' by means of signature that 'The Big Boys' have been invited in and the floor swept before their every step and been able to advertise ~ just like that.
Of course, every member has a choice of where to shop and which product brand they buy.
Thats why most members know that they can buy from Mercedes directly and in some cases enjoy hefty discounts for some genuine parts categories like braking and service parts. They also know they can use the services of Nick Mercedes if he's got the part.
Again, some members know that I supply aftermarket brands like Febi Bilstein and Meyle. In most cases there is a vast saving to be made and everyone is happy.
What point am I making here you may ask?
With plenty of posts and threads under my collar on 'non selling matters' I have been totally ignored when asking to advertise on here, not even a reply "Sorry you can't because of x y & z"
Mr ECP instructs his staff to 'penetrate the owners clubs to make more money' and straight away you allow what is blatantly obvious to be a marketing strategy with absolutely no interest whatsoever in the marque itself to advertise on here. Has there been a back hander here or what? Admins where are your principles and morals?
The funny side is that thay have already made the claim that they are cheaper than any motor factor etc.
Here is something funnier still: Any price you are quoted by them on this forum, if I have got the part in stock I will beat it, no fuss.

Hopefully, Marks & Spencer will be along soon to offer discount vouchers.

I have registered and will have a look at their online shop in a day or two .

I did download their 'big book of car parts' and was immediately disappointed that it only starts at the W202/W211 - so not much use to the thousands of owners of of W201/W123/W124/W210/W126/R107 etc etc who are much more likely to do DIY maintenance than owners of newer cars .

If parts for the earlier models are listed in the online shop it will be fine , otherwise I won't bother as I , too , have found their website less than 'user friendly' .

When single-branch German specialists like DB Depot and SLS can have pages translated into English with extensive listing of parts for cars ranging from the 1980's back to the early 1950's , why can't a supposed 'national' chain with multiple outlets do better in this day and age ?

Mercedes-Benz , too , should 'get with it' and have an official online ordering system , based on their own EPC , so that customers can look up parts for any car and order them directly without needing to rely on dealers like Inchcape to provide the service ( even their online catalogue is very limited ) .

Because the above 2 just focus on a limited range of parts for a limited range of cars.

The problem there is people are in general too thick to know what parts they need, and just take a rough guess at what might fit, everyday I get some clown who's brought the wrong parts and it's always my fault for some reason.

It's better that the vast majority of MB parts are sold through parts counters as they can ensure that people are ordering the correct parts.
