New key help please.

After many months I have received my new key for my car however having placed it in the ignition had "collecting data" on the dashboard after a while the key will now open, close and start the engine but will not allow the gear selector to be moved from the P position, car has sat on my drive running for an hour ! But still says "collecting data" and unable to move from park.

Anyone have any ideas ?

I'm guessing it was ordered from MB....have you spoken to them?

Is this the only key? If so, brake light switch?

Bob6600 thanks for the reply, yes its the 4th key from MB others wouldn't even open the car, other key works fine, had a major problem with MB but the parts guy has been like a terrier and no problems there brake switch is ok I assume as the other key works fine.

Problem solved.
It took over an hour and a half to download the information to the key !!!
It turns out even with everything manually turned off there is still so much drain on the battery that the car shut the information transfer down to preserve the battery. Thus only downloading 2/3 of the needed information, MB attached their charger and 90 mins later all good.
