Hey guys.

What sort of price would I pay for a new key? The 3 button chrome style key with key inside.(not sure what model but I assume Most classes) My one is looking a tad rough and needs renewing. I understand it may need reprogramming. Also what sort if price to reprograme it?

Cheers

£220 - ish from main dealer. Fob and metal blade key. Not sure of price for just the fob.
You will need V5 & proof of ID. Takes about 5 days for them to get one and comes pre-programmed.

Do NOT be tempted to buy one off ebay, they won't work and cannot be re-programmed to another vehicle.

You may be able to swap out the innards to another outer case though. Have a search on here for more info, there are lots of posts about keys.

I just purchased one two weeks ago, £232.00 you need to take the car to the dealer with your driving licence and V5, key comes from Germany so anything upto 10 days ( mine arrived in 4 ) take car back to dealer make sure blade opens door, parts guy sticks key in ignition and it's says something like key code. Job done.

Lovely thank you. Yeah I've been offered new keys from a guy who gets them from Mercedes in Germany direct and he sells them at £45 each. Only problem is they are slightly different on the top part of the key, so the insides aren't interchangeable. These are probably the newer style key compared to my w204 2007 key.

That's awesome, do you swap the internals over or reprogram the key? I'd be really interested if you could do that. Only issue I have is I was only given one key grrrrr!

I brought 2 housings off ebay for my keys as they were cracking. It was very easy and they work perfectly. Mine are the all black key and they have the Merc Star and the end lens is perfect. I did think I fell lucky however and you would not tell they were not original. They were only £12.00. You pay your money and take your chance on ebay. Its very easy to swap and took 20 mins. Ive not had a moments problem with them. I assume thats the same with the chrome key.
