I managed to flatten my battery pretty much all the way so need to charge it..... Should be easy but it is parked on a street so I need to take the battery out. I've looked for what seems like hours but can't see a "retaining screw" as the manual calls it. Can anyone help me?

what car is it,, w124.?,, year, etc,, bit more info would help,, :D

fair point

its a 2001 c240 auto avantgarde saloon. The battery is right on the bulkhead in front of the passenger seat... so you've worked out that i don't really have a clue?:D

Clamping plate

Normally at the base of the battery there's a clamping plate which is held down by tightening a nut/stud or bolt. It bears down on lugs molded onto the base of the battery case. Lugs on the other side of the battery are positioned under lips on the battery tray to hold it down. Its in the centre of this pic. You will possibly need a socket on an extension to undo it. may not be exactly the same on your model but probably similar
