New member - 2006 W221 S600

Lovely interior. I bought the "King of Siam" off the Embassy and ran it for 30,000 miles. Cost me about £3k in depreciation but was worth every penny.

There are SWB S600's and S500's in the UK but they are very rare. I found a low mileage Tanzanite SWB S600 for a friend who loves it to bits.

I'm pretty sure that the Lloyd Weber S600 has been for sale for more than three years now. Seller wants more than people will pay for an S600 with a six figure mileage.

Haha - small world. I saw the Thai car at a used car place near Tamworth.

Three years?! I wonder what that's costing him in Autotrader fees.

Welcome aboard Chris thats a great car the w221 is one of the best designs in my opinion,I hope you get a lot of details of work carried out over the years,it will help to see where the next big bill is coming from.
Well I did get some history with the car, but not as much as I'd have liked. But I wasn't going to walk away from it because of that. The previous owner had just done the coil packs and spark plugs, so that took care of the main concerns, as well as one of the ABC accumulators.

@MikeInWimbledon - I was under the impression that all W221 S600 where in LWB.. unless SWB were possible upon custom order?
I wonder if both were available initially (hence the 'L' on my boot lid), before Mercedes UK then decided to import LWB only.

I have a few that I took soon after I bought the car. I must get round to taking some in a better setting than the Ikea car park! These were taken before I removed the generic V12 badges that someone had added to the C-pillars.

I find the front view of this model to be a little, what's the word, bland? But the side profile I feel is understated and elegant, while the rear three-quarter profile has a subtle muscle car look to it. I like the way the big rear wheels fill those bulging arches.
Nice. Whilst I haven't driven one I can imagine that they are fantastic for long motorway journeys. Just cruising along comfortably.

Methinks both the S500 and S600 were available as SWB in the UK, but are crazy rare.

The SWB V8 and V12's were created primarily for the German market, I believe.

For a powerful SWB, they pushed you in the direction of AMG versions after that initial launch.

(Might be something to do with EU emission targets)

It's fantastic everywhere :)

A very 'eager' throttle and a perfectly level ride make it feel much more nimble than I was expecting around town. And I'm a lot closer to the windscreen than I was in my Chrysler 300C, so it definitely doesn't feel as big as it is.

I don't do a lot of motorway driving any more. My best journey so far was from south Wales to Nottingham, where I avoided the motorway and went cross-country. Apart from their rather draconian speed limits, I had a great time on the twisty bits.

I have never seen or heard of the L being part of the 221. It looks totally out of place, in fact it looks like it's been put on by one of the previou owners, out of curiosity i would speak with MB to see if it is OEM. The other reason i think it's suspect is the V12 on the rear pillars aredefinately add on's

I agree. And I don't think the V12 should have 'BITURBO' underneath it on the front wing, so maybe one of the previous owners was keen on some extra adornments.

Just to clarify - I agree that it may have been added by a previous owner, but I've definitely seen plenty of other W221s with the L on the boot lid.

I have chauffeured for more years than i wish to remember in London and have never seen one 221 or any other model, apert from the SEL's :confused:
I use to have a BMW E38 740iL which had the L ;) Great car by the way.

Maybe "plenty of" was an exaggeration on my part :) . But I have seen them. This one on ebay, albeit a post-facelift model, has it: 2010/60 MERCEDES S500L AUT0 + 18K FACTORY OPTIONS + MUST SEE | eBay

Here's a thought. How consistent is the positioning of the 'S' on the boot lid? Mine appears half a letter further to the left than a few that I've just seen while searching for one with an 'L'. Did the original owner perhaps order it de-badged, and the second owner maybe 're-badged' it? Was de-badging a factory option? There's no sign of it on the options sheet.

SWB W221 V8 on both M273 and M278 were available in UK and EUR ( US I think they only have LWB) SWB S600 i think the last time Mercdes made one was with the W140 as even with the W220 the S600 was LWB.
Shame we never had the S450 / S420 CDi in the UK...

Very strange, it just dosen't look right.

Welcome to the forum.
Could you post what the CarPlay adapter is, or even better a 'how to' thread to get it to work with the phone puck connector.
thanks
