Hi, just a quick one to introduce myself as a new member. I'm based in Bournemouth and have just bought my first Mecedes, up until now I've had Ford's, Volvo's, an Alfa, Fiats, Vauxhall's and Saab's so this is a very nice change (although a couple of previous cars weren't too bad for comfort etc).

It's a 2003 C320 in Jasper Blue - it has an AMG body kit and wheels (factory installed) and most of the toys. I was looking for a CLK originally for the slightly more sporty look but with the AMG kit this looks very nice.

One of the only things it doesn't have is the TV, is this installable now and is it expensive? I assume it will need a bit more kit than it would have originally what with only being digital etc??

Also, it still has the NAV CD from 2002, I've seen 2012 versions on Ebay, do these work? I assume they are copies so want to make sure the drive will read the disc as I've had CD players in the past that won't read CD-R's etc?

Finally, it has the telephone system installed - I've seen Bluetooth modules on Ebay that you plug in and then connect your phone to that - do these work??

Any other members in Bournemouth?

Cheers.

Welcome. There are a few members Bournemouth way I believe!

I'm guessing the Comand sat nav isn't the APS (DVD) widescreen version as you talk about CD and not DVD. I'd be wary of buying copies from eBay as they can be of low quality but originals do turn up every now and again and can be good value if looking for a year or two older. I believe for the CD based ones you are looking for DX types.

If you are CD based Comand then TV was analogue and is digital now. There have been a few installs done by members on this forum, just do a search for digital TV. If it is Comand APS then a Mercedes digital TV tuner is a possibility for a factory look install, but this can be expensive!

On the telephone front the Viseeo units are well regarded. Do you have a pre-installed telephone cradle or a small socket under a cover as they do different units to fit these different sockets?

Hello and Welcome to the Forum from along

Hello and welcome :) I'm in North Dorset, near Blandford. Love your choice of colour for the new car by the way. I've always admired the blue and when searching for my car, I found one but it disappeared from sale so quick I was gutted!
I have the COMAND system with SatNav and my unit uses CD's which are DX - I was looking at upgrading my 2003 disc for a more up to date one but cannot justify £125 for something I will not use that often. Have a look at Mercedes Comand Navigation and Audio Specialists for info on this.
I'm with SJMaxwell - steer clear of EBay versions as likely to be copies and they will not work in your COMAND system.

Happy motoring in the Merc :D

Welcome along.

I spend a bit of time in Ferndown - hope to see you around sometime...

Welcome from a neighbour! I've read enough to make me realise how involved these systems are, but there are some people on here who really know their stuff, and you will no doubt get a better response if you post your query in the electrical section.

I bought a genuine MB updated map disc off ebay for my car, but you will need to know what system you have etc, so get familiar first! Enjoy the car - you should be easy to spot! If you get flashed by a silver E500 estate, it's me!

Cheers for the welcome guy's, hopefully will see a few of you out on the roads.

Yes, I have the old DX CD based system as the car is a 2003 (TeleAtlas or something like that). I've found the CD's online for £125 but there is a guy on Ebay selling 'backup' CD's for £25.

Cheers for the Bluetooth advice, they seem to be the one's that are cropping up in my searches as well.

Yeah, those are the one's I've found at £125, the guy on Ebay that's selling them for £25 insists they will work though!!!

Will keep an eye out, I'm in Southbourne and make a lot of journeys down to the spur road to get to the MWay for work so Christchurch Road is the most likely place, don't do much driving locally as in Southbourne everything is easily walkable.
