Hi All, firstly I am new to the forum and to Mercedes. I've been an Audi man having owned 4 of them as my last 4 cars (TT 225, TTS, S4 (still own) & A8 4.2 V8) I've just changed my A8 for a 59 plate MB E320 CDI BlueEfficiency Sport with 28k on clock, bought as an approved MB from MB dealer. incidentally it is also the first Diesel I've owned in my 14 years driving.

I have been reading the forum and numerous sites to death regarding either a remap or tuning box, problem is I'm not familiar with tuning box other than a friend who destroyed his diesel VW Golf many years ago using one. I'm more familiar with remapping and I've had Upsolute remaps on 2 previous cars.

Brabus box is out of the question, I just don't perceive value in that at all so I'm looking at either a DTUK box or Superchips remap but cannot decide at all which is best. I have also looked at Upsolute again as a remap option as I have used this remap safely on a MK4 VW Golf GTi Turbo and on the TTS, however the UK installer (CCC Technology) is no longer listed as a UK installer anymore and haven't made contact yet, so not sure if Upsolute would be an option again.

Do any of you have my car specifically and have any experience in a tuning box v remap? I read there is a max safe torque figure the 7 speed auto can handle but no specifics on what that figure actually is? Can anyone advise?

Torque figures also vary in the options, Upsolute quote 600NM, Superchips quote 620NM and DTUK tuning box 660NM

I pick the car up in 1 weeks time and I'm looking to get the upgrade work done ASAP so any advice or thoughts are very much welcomed!

Thanks

Chris

Hey and welcome i would advise a kleemann tuning box or a remap done via Eurocharged.

Just fitted a DTUK box to my C320 CDi a couple of days ago. So far I'm pleased with it, I am currently running it on the 'T' setting which is the way it comes supplied. I may try the next stage up, and see how that goes.

Remap having had experience of both in the past not on mercedes but vw diesels and range rovers the remaps felt better throughout the Rev range where the tuning box just suddenly came on in one huge lump of torque. Remaps tend to be more expensive and I'd say from personal experience kinder to mechanical parts such as DMF and clutches as the power delivery is more linear rather than a mass of torque. But as above try to go with a Mercedes tuner rather than someone like superchips I know they have moved on in terms of the reputation in the early days but I always prefer to go with a specialist. E.g. Revo for VW/Audi etc...

Thanks for replies, I'm based just outside Glasgow, Scotland.

Never use a box,it works but its only resistor which cheats signal to Ecu that pressure is too low on common rail .Automatically ecu boost more diesel into injectors, your gains come from that.We need to remember that every injector can handle specific pressure input, then it fails.
With remap its much safer,
Your car is not cheap and 100£ Box price versus 300£ remap its nit a huge different
Take care of your car - remap only

go with the brabus, the extra cost is worth it,they are 500 quid on ebay, and it will add value not scare people off like a remap when you come to sell
