Hi - introducing myself as a new member. I've been reading posts on this forum for a few years. The reason I'm joining is first to say "thank you" to everyone here who takes the time to respond to requests for help. Twice this year I've benefited from that help - the Harmon Kardon amp in my S500 went phut and, based on experiences here I had it replaced at Command Online in Lightwater. The strings on the convertible roof on my E53 snapped and following recommendations here I had them fixed at Soft Tops Convertible Repair Specialists in Coventry. I was impressed by the knowledge and friendliness of both of these specialists. I'll be posting more detail on the relevant threads.
Both my wife and I are unrepentant petrol heads and between us have driven a variety of vehicles over the years. Her "Desert Island Discs" luxury is a Land Rover Defender 130 which she has owned since new in 2004. Mine is the W221 S-Class 500L which I bought second-hand earlier this year - I've always liked barges and it was an "itch that had to be scratched". It has, as I had anticipated, been something of a money pit but I'm lucky enough to live within a few miles of a Mercedes specialist. I'm hoping that we've sorted out all the "likely suspects" for the moment at least. And that's the second reason for my signing up here - I now have a little more experience of what can go wrong and I feel I should help if I can.
