1986 R107 420 92000 miles Smoke Silver Burgundy leather
Just joined today so though I'd introduce myself. I have a 1986 R107 420 in Smoke Silver with Burgundy interior, 92000 miles. I'm new to the model as well but am now in love, as is my wife :thumb: Picked her up only 6 weeks ago and (bravely) drove 2500 miles around France. Apart from a cracked air intake hose (fixed with my trusty roll of Duck tape) she was faultless and wafted through the Pyrenees with ease.

Have just fitted a Becker Indianapolis Pro which I picked up on eBay and this winter will replace most of the door seals, some rust on the edges inside the hood cover and I will also tackle a crack on the top if the dash.

Thanks to members here, life has been a lot easier for me so I hope to contribute as well.

Will post some pics when I work out how to do it from an iPhone!

Oooo crickey we need pictures of that, and the trip too please.........

Hello
Welcome to the Forum :thumb:

A few photos attached from France trip

We sailed Portsmouth - Caen, then drove via Le Mans to Bellac which is near Limoges. After a couple of days we went on to Toulouse, next day a short cruise down to Carcassone (a beautiful medieval city by the way, highly recommended after day trippers leave so best to stay there!). Next day, via Limoux to Perpignan (yuck) and Collioure (love it).

A couple of days later via Castelnou to Mirepoix and did everything possible to avoid the Tour de France just ahead of us! Into the lower Pyrenees, we chickened out of going via Andorra with the broken air intake. Overnight in splendid Saint Lizier and next day Lourdes. Slow cruise from there through low mountain areas via Saint Jean Pied de Port and Ainhoa, into Spain briefly, then Saint Jean de Luz to Biarritz. After a couple of days we headed north through Bordeaux country eventually ending up in Ile de Re to where we will eventually retire. We then spent a weekend in Nantes before heading back to Caen via Bayeux.

By the time we got home after 14 days we had covered 2500 miles. We averaged 21.5 mpg (i was pleasantly surprised by this although to be fair we were wafting most of the time). We also used a little less than 1 litre of 10/40 although I suspect we could have managed without it, just. Amazingly, the dipstick was still clean!

A few niggles emerged as I got familiar with her - high idle speed (now sorted), a rattle behind the clocks which will probably just have to stay like that, the well documented leak into the boot on the O/S and some wheel balancing issues. I also chipped the centre console next to the mirror adjuster (scream!). Ultimately, not being a techie, was a bold shout to undertake this jaunt but she has proved to be as reliable as any modern car but a whole lot more fun!

Is that an Ox blood interior in there. Looks smart, pity the picture isn't bigger......

Thanks! Yes it is Ox Blood. Middle Red is what Mercedes call it I think. I couldnt upload better resolution pics on this forum as attachments. If you know a way of doing it, please let me know!

Thanks Kashif
Tell me - how do you post a photo like that?
Graham
