My overpaid and underworked bro in law (wife's brother) has just got a 2014 350SL in silver with red leather interior.

He chopped in his 2012 SLK200.

He's bringing it over later. Shame it's chucking it down.

That'll be one of the last 350's before they changed to the 400 engine.

Honestly, they're a bargain considering what they cost new. He should have paid low to mid £30K for that.

I simply choose not to look at how much ours has depreciated in the 11 months since we bought it.

Having said that the new SL400 is pretty expensive. I know its a convertible but it only has two seats!! Just ordered a brand new C43 AMG with the same engine with loads of options for under £47,000 that's probably over £30,000 less than the SL!! Crazy but true. But I know I am comparing apples with eggs......

Mid 30's is all he will reveal. What was it new?

It's a million miles from the SLK to drive, be a passenger in etc etc.

By the time you've added a few essential options they list at about £80k but they don't sell for that.

We paid £65K for our SL400 new 11 months ago but nearly £6k of that was a designo paint option. If I didn't go with the paint it would have been £59K.

SL350's were similar new - so two years on £35K is pretty much half price.

I am going over to Mercedes Colindale and Watford at the weekend to see what they have.

Dilemmas are that the Porsche has back seats (just) and so when the Jaaag doesn't want to work we have a car for the 3 of us. If I buy an SL and the Jaag dies I then have to fork out for another family car.

SLs are available with around £21k discount
