The nearside front passenger door on my E280 1995 Estate is rusty - bottom of the door and around the seams, (just showing through at the joins.

All the other doors are fine with no rust

The "facelift" plastic cover hides the rust but I would like to fit a new door

Hopefully I can get a good silver one from a breakers, and that all passenger W124 front near side door are not the same, i.e. rusty

How difficult is it to replace the door and all the fittings, my car has electric seats.........I realise that the window lifters etc., could be a bugger......but what do i need to look out for

Any hints etc., would be much appreciated

Cheers

Any silver one you do find will be the wrong shade anyway, and stand out like a sore thumb.

I'd be more concerned to find a rust free one, rather than one in silver.

The internals are easy enough to swap over, nothing should catch you out.

Just check for rust under the cladding and around the door frame at the top.

A perfect used door should cost no more than £50

Thanks Nick

I live near Wichester, so I reckon I will get around to see you in a few weeks when I am back home.
I have just got the W124 Estate bug after driving one after a few years.
I really bought it for my son as a stop gap because he has had a leg operation and needed an Auto that he could stretch his left leg out in
He loves it but would not want one, at his age, but you cannot help realising that they are such quality cars.
I will either sell it and buy another, (better one), or sort out all the problems, (rusty door, a few oil leaks, needs new Alloys plus a little paintwork), plus maybe a loom, (keeping my fingers crossed) and a few very small other bits.
It is a nice virtually "one owner" car, with only 160,000 miles, goes really well and has leather etc., and needs saving..

Great Forum...........very helpful guys that can tell you all you need to know

Thanks

I have a brand spankers genuine MB one for sale if you're interested.

Was hoping to get more than £50 for it though...
