Hi all, just bought an August 2012 E220Cdi Avantgarde Estate auto, with a few extras, and 3000 miles on the clock.
I am new to Mercedes too, having come most recently from a couple of Volvos (S60), a Mazda 5 that I inherited from the wife, and before that a selection of BMWs, VWs and an Alfa.
I do alot of miles (40k a year isnt unusual) and nowadays comfort is more of a priority than handling and outright performance. Quality and reliability are also key.
So far the Mercedes experience has been good, the sales guy at Mercedes Sheffield was pleasant, efficient, came up with a fair deal and did what he said he would by when he would. After about 1000 miles (about 90% of which have been on the motorway!), I am impressed. Its comfortable, nice toys, fast enough, good gearbox (although I'm no afficianado of autos so cant comment on the 5g v 7g debate!), and is showing about 48mpg so far.
Its not the quietest car i have had - but it is my first 4 cylinder diesel for a good few years, and the 18" rims do kick up a bit more road noise than the 16s on the last S60!
So far so good, lets see if I feel the same in about 3.5 years and 150k miles, it has a tough act to follow as the last S60 gave very little trouble and didnt incur any big bills whilst I had it....
Any comments and views welcome..... and if the previous owner is on here (apparently it was traded for an ML after he inherited some money!) then say hello!
