Hi everyone,

My name is Gavin and I've just bought my first Mercedes, a 53 plate silver S350 which is about to clock 100k miles

I took delivery of the car last Saturday and this week changed the engine and gearbox oil along with the spark plugs and the gearbox electrical plug. I have also thoroughly cleaned the inside using APC on the trims to lift off all the dirt and grease etc and then dressing. I also cleaned all the seats with Gliptone. The interior looks pretty much like new, just the glove box release button has peeled, ordered a new one from Mercedes but not sure how to remove / fit it. Any advice welcome!

The car is for the weekend, I drive a Jag XF as a daily.

The car the Merc replaces was a 2005 E46 M3. I had the car three years and loved it but fancied a change to something totally different. Over the three years I had it my plan was to get as close to factory condition as possible, I compiled a build thread on another forum, I'll paste the link and post a few photos below for anyone who is interested.

I'm looking forward to being part of the forum!

Thanks guys!

Welcome, Nice cars

Am I the only one that thinks your nuts for changing the M3 for an S?

Surly one luxury car and one slightly nuts would have been better no?

Hey, to be honest I didn't swap the M3 for the S. The M3 was sold and the Jag is soon to be sold to make space for a soon to arrive BMW 640d M Sport. With the BMW being a new car I know I'll miss doing some "tinkering" so the S was bought to fill that gap.

My plans for the S at the moment are as follows:

Suspension refresh: No faults or leaks but the rear seems a bit fidgety so will look at the top strut bushes and take it from there.
Viseeo bluetooth puck
Alloy refurb
Full paint correction detail

Ah right

You'll like the 640d, I've just sold my 740d for an E63

Your E46 M3 looks stunning, Did you ever have an subframe work done on it?

Welcome, Looks fantastic condition...nice buy, I also had a pretty mint 2005 E46 M3 basically a garage queen and was a regular on m3 cutters.

Yeah, looking forward to getting it! I bet the E63 is a beast, it's early days but after I'm done with the S i quite gancy an AMG car.

Thanks re the M3, it was a real labour of love but I went a bit overboard on it. I bought the car for £13k had it for 3 years and 20k miles and sold for £13.5k. Only problem being by the time I had finished the car owed me £26k! All of that was spent on just getting it back to factory condition too. It was mint by the end though!!

I had the subframe checked every couple of months but it was always ok. The car is still within the 10 year free good will gesture from BMW so I wouldn't have had to pay for the fix during my ownership. I think on 05 and later E46 M3's they upgraded the subframe so failure is less likely in those cars.

Yup E63 definetly is a beast, I had the previous model to this and spent an arm and leg on it, eventually traded it in for the 740D

As good as the 7 was it just wasn't an AMG.

That's the thing with cars sometimes you spend a fortune on them and in the end someone else gets all the hard work and effort because you can't add it on top of what its worth.

Cars are only worth what someones willing to pay for them.
