I've been driving the new 2010 Porsche Boxster for the last couple of days and i've loved it:D

I just wanted to drive it to see how it compares to the SLK55 AMG that I want to get, interms of straight line speed then the SLK55 is way ahead, having said that the Porsche is very fast as well with 255bhp and a 0-62mph in 5.6secs, thanks to the PDK.

The Porsche I drove had the PDK box and it's the best gearbox i've ever driven.. it's always in the right gear and the gear changes are so quick.

No boubt it's the best car i've ever driven in terms of over all package, so well balanced and i'm amazed at the amount of grip it has, no wheel spin at all... just goes,

1 thing I did not like are the seats, they were uncomfy and after 200miles my back started hurting me and i'm not a big person (i'm 5ft9 -5ft10)

I love the comfort/luxury of my w211 it's in a different league compared to the porsche but these car are totally different.

Point is I had so much fun in such a great geat car, would make a nice weekend car for me :D

But I still want the SLK55 just for the V8 track!;)

I'm a bit of a fan of the boxster - have driven several, though never owned one. As you say, the grip is fantastic, and it is one of the best handling cars I have ever driven. Seems to cope with however much power they choose to put through it - just gets better. Being the 911's baby brother it sometimes gets regarded as a bit of a lightweight, not quite a 'proper' porker, but that's completely undeserved - it's a really well sorted little car.

I've never driven a Porsche before but as soon as I drove one I was really impressed, as I said it's the best well balanced car i've ever driven.

It puts the power down so well that's what I love about it, I can't imagin what a 911 will be like:eek:

Try a Cayman, lighter and more rigid. Apparently one of the finest drivers cars out there. SLK55 will be good but not in a c*cksters leugue.

Spot on SLK55 sounds amazing, goes like stink but can;t hold a candle to either porsche in the handling department.

c*cksters, lol, nice one steve! Yes I might give the cayman a try soon ;) I hurd good reviews about them, will see how it goes, I just don't want anything to change my mind about an SLK55!

I think you are either a Porsche person or you are not. I've driven quite a few and been impressed with the 'indestrucable' feel and handling. I've also had a few 'moments' in them (911 turbo!) but never an 'off'
However, they just leave me cold. I've been in better handling cars, much more comfortable cars and ones with which I bond. I guess I'm just not a Porsche person.:o
That and the fact they have always been the 'opposition' when racing Jaguars, McLarens and Bentleys;)

Try it, may change your mind but whatever you do, dont try a used SL55amg ;)

I have had two Boxster S and, but for the small boot space split front and rear, to me they were nigh on perfect cars. Fast, brilliant engines, comfortable rides and handling that is only marginally less precise than a Lotus Elise. A friend has a Cayman S and adores it, more powerful than the Boxster, and better handling. But Mactech is right - you are either a Porsche person or not.

AMG philosophy is different, in putting in a large engine of incredible power and torque, and there is no doubt that their straightline performance (in the dry) is astonishing. I found my C32 great in that respect, but I didn't like the over-aggressive traction control that would so often kill the power to a pitiful level, and handling was certainly less precise. I haven't driven an SLK55, so no doubt there has been a lot of change in nigh on ten years. I would however take the Boxster S in a heartbeat.

SLK55 AMG will always be my first choice over the Boxster or BoxsterS becuase you simply can not ignore the monster under the bonnet, even though the boxster is a great car and more balanced.

The AMG V8 in the slk is too much to resist.

how did you find the PDK 'box on the Porsche? have read reviews that it's counter intuitive in it's use to every other sequential DSG box out there?

I've never driven a DSG box but I found Porsches 7-speed PDK to be very smooth yet very quick in changing gears and it's always in the right gear at all time. You would have to try it to know what I mean.. has to be the best gearbox in the world!:D

PDK gearbox is capable of shifting 60% percent quicker than a normal auto or manual!

PDK Manual mode is perfect, abit like the mercs tiptronic but changes quicker and smoother!

Deffo alot better than BMW's unreliable SMG that's for sure!

PDK felt much better than the DSG, I had both at the same time, albeit the PDK in a 2008 Boxster S and the DSG in a VAG 2.0 TDI.

DSG was way too "eagar" and undecisive.

I have driven a 987 Boxster, very nice and felt like a really quick drivers car. However, that one has cr*p alloys! :D

Agreed, have played with the Cayman on track and performed very well.

Boxter looks great!! :thumb:

horse for courses.

the SLK 55 is not really pretending to be an out and out sports car. The Porsche is not pretending to be anything else.

No matter how much power the boxsters have, it is higher in the rev range and therefore, you need a bit of throttle pedal to get it spinning.

The SLK just headbutts the horizon

Boxsters do have better suspension too.

If they are both on a track, if it has a long straight to start with, the Porsche would beat the SLK, once it caught it.

on the road.....................more boot space in the boxters, nice suspension...loses on noise.

If you want a handling car, buy an Elise,

If you want good 2 seater buy the Porsche.

If you want everything else, buy the Mercedes. it really is a better place to be more of the time.

Any of the 3 above will be a good buy!
