Hi, yes. I've just joined the forum. I have an R170 bought from new in 2001. On the whole it is a great car but the one problem I have encountered is oil getting into the engine loom from the camshaft. It then travels to the exhaust sensors and kills them. The car won't pass an MOT like that because the sensors dictate the fuel mix. It is an expensive job to get the sensors replaced. You cannot replace the loom - there are non left - but Mercedes now do an adapted camshaft magnet and this apparently solves the problem. Your R170 may have already had the modification done but if not I strongly advise that you have it done and any oil already in the engine loom drained out. Also have a blocker fitted. I had it done recently and it cost about £150.
