Surely this must be some sort of record. I replaced distributor cap and rotor arm on my R129 300SL24 and the rotor arm lasted a total of 18 minutes (at idle!). Admittedly they weren't Bosch or MB parts as I couldn't get any in the time frame I had so ended up with Bremi from GSF but even so...

There's clear signs of tracking on the inside surface of the rotor arm!

Ho-hum - will have to see if GSF will give me a refund...

Ever thought something is mashing the rotor arm ?

I did have a good look and there's nothing obvious and, with the old, corroded rotor arm back in it runs smoothly.

Having looked closely at the Bremi / Beru unit, there are clear signs of arcing onto the rotor arm drive bracket so I think there must be a manufacturing fault that means there wasn't sufficient insulator between the conductor and the drive bracket.
