New Shape ML v Old shape ML

All, I got to hire the new shape ML 320CDI, and I own a ML 270CDI 02 old shape.

I just did not like the new shape at all, (very disapointed)

1. Theres no gear lever in the middle but a stalk near the steering wheel.
2. The dashboard is very plastic, just like a dashboard from a vauxhall cavalier,
3. The seats look as though they are from a rover 800 series.
4,. The headlights do not come on automatically.
5. Overpriced.
6. Tiny headrests in the back.
7. A bit of a bumpy ride in the back.
8. Very heavy on Diesel fuel.
7. No seven seat option
8. No wheel carrier.


Good Bits,


1) Very Fast
2) Looks impressive
3) Very quiet, cant tell if its a petrol or Diesel.



I just cant get over what MB have done to the dashboard and this is what you get for a £50000 motor.

Not biased or anything, but have to agree. The new interior is a bit bulbous and has lost the understated style MB excels in.

Im glad Im not the only one who feels that way, I was very disapointed.
So now I will never even think of upgrading to a new shape.

Was in WHsmiths today reading the merc mag while the other half gets card...

Had the new ML400Cdi (v8) 0-60 in 6.8 and 140mph.

think it was about £50,000

The ML320cdi's pleanty around for £35000 agree for that I would still want to be happy.

Best bet is in 3 years that car with be high teens, and then you can forgive it some parts...as its less than the price of a Freelander (by the way have you sat in the new disco...wow if you think the Mercs bad)

My current old shape ML was probably nearly £40,000 new, I dont think I would have been happy at that price but at less than half that price its fantastic !!

Agree with you mate,

It wouldn't hurt as much to even buy it when the price come down to even £15000. But the door cards are made from a thick black plastic material, same as the dashboard looks very tacky, I just cant get over the look of seats, the shape is just like seats from a rover 800 series.

Love the power and quietness.

Has any one carried out any styling mods to their W163? I was thinking of fitting one of them W164 style grilles to replace my black mesh type grille and I also intend to fot the SLK pedal mods very soon as well.

Share your M class mods with us such as aftermarket wheels etc.

I wondered about the new W164 style grille before I got my car. I think the W163 silver AMG/Inspiration grille looks fantastic though...I see yours is silver from the avatar...look at A210AMG's avatar. Transforms the face of the ML so effectively

My car is actually traventige beige with a black grille, the new grilles are a matt silver and should not look odd on a beige car......hopefully, I even thought about buying a spare black grille and spraying it silver to see how it turns out.

Looks good to me! I would also like a bonnet star but I am well aware why they dont fit them on the ML so I wont bother.

Has anyone thought about fitting the latest style bonnet.
This looks realy cool.

Isnt that the bonnet fitted to the AMG and Inspiration models?

I would like air suspension as well for when not off roading to reduce the ride height.

My wish list is:

2 tone grey leather seats out of an Inspiration
White dials and chrome rings (darent fit as I am an heavy handed git and will break something expensive)
Chrome heater control rings
Chrome gear surround but at £30 for a bit of chromed plastic!
double din radio to fill "that gap"
different lid for the centre armrest as every one I have seen has indentations, an Inspiration one from memory is stitched leather, much nicer
lockable storage box under front passenger seat
Overhead fuel computer ( I keep checking e bay germany for one)
20" wheels

I have resisted blacked out windows, side steps and A bar.

Thats it for now.

Yes that right, This paticular bonnet is fitted on a AMG version.

The chrome rings, Ive seen them on ebay, I myself am think about getting them as well sooner or later.
