Just received this from the M-B press office.

New SLC name to replace SLK 20 years after its first launch

Available in two trim lines: Sport and AMG Line

Range-topping Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 features new 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine
The new Mercedes-Benz SLC is now available to order, and will be priced from £30,495 for the entry-level SLC 200 Sport.

The SLC is available with a choice of four engines. The petrol line-up features a 2.0-litre motor which produces 184hp (SLC 200) or 245hp (SLC 300). The SLC 200 is available as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox (150 g/km of CO2) or the optional 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission (137 g/km), while the SLC 300 comes with the 9G-TRONIC gearbox as standard (138 g/km).

The most fuel-efficient model in the range is the SLC 250 d which comes with a 2.1-litre diesel engine (204 hp), with CO2 emissions of just 114 g/km.

The SLC is available in two model lines: Sport and AMG Line. Standard equipment includes: re-designed halogen headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights; new sports exhaust system (standard with 9G-TRONIC on SLC 200 and SLC 300); sports pedals; LED tail lights; Active Brake Assist; Attention Assist; Active Bonnet; chrome-plated twin exhaust system; remote boot lid release; and Headlamp Assist.

Sport models come with 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels (18-inch five-twin spoke alloy wheels are optionally available for £995), while AMG Line offers 18-inch AMG multi-spoke alloys.

Inside, a light carbon-grain trim comes as standard on the SLC 200, SLC 300 and SLC 250d, while the SLC 43 is available with dark carbon-grain trim.

SLC is optionally available with LED Intelligent Light System with Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus for £1,150. For the best possible visibility on country roads and motorways, plus when cornering and on bends, the low-beam mode of the LED Intelligent Light System automatically adapts to the weather, lighting and driving conditions. In addition to its striking appearance, the LED Intelligent Light System offers more safety at night thanks to situation-based light distribution, combined with a light colour similar to daylight. The brightness of the brake lights also varies depending on the light conditions – to avoid dazzling other road users.

Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus recognises other road users with their lights on and adjusts the headlamps to the new traffic situation with no input from the driver.

At £765 customers can opt for the Keyless Go package, which now includes an automatic boot separator. If it is in the upright position, the boot separator will automatically lower when the driver lowers the roof – eliminating the need for the driver to manually close the separator.

The new Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 comes with a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine and offers performance of 367 hp plus peak torque of 520 Nm: allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Its top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. The SLC 43 comes standard with the 9G-TRONIC gearbox, enabling it to offer emissions of just 178 g/km – almost 20 g/km less than the previous SLK 55 AMG. Additionally, the SLC 43 is priced at £46,355, compared to £55,350 for the SLK 55 AMG.

The Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 is available with a host of standard equipment including AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather and DINAMICA combined with red contrast stitching; AIRSCARF neck-level heating; PARKTRONIC including parking guidance; LED Intelligent Light System and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus; analogue clock featuring an IWC design; Garmin® MAP PILOT with Live Traffic Information; AMG sports suspension; AMG sports exhaust system; AMG Handling Package; and AMG high-performance braking system with red–painted brake calipers.

Petrol
200 4-cy; 184hp Sport manual from £30,500, auto £32,000.
AMG £34,500 and £36,000 respectively.
300 4-cy; 245hp AMG auto from £39,200.
43 6-cy; 367hp from £46,355 [see below]
Diesel
250d 4-cy; 204hp Sport auto £33,000, AMG £37,000.

The press release included a table where the hp for the 43 was given as 258. We can conclude two things from this: the table was wrong and the copy editor will be spoken to.

And very handsome it is too. I first sat in one in 1973!

Yeah, I always thought they were too.

P.s. '73? Delighted to say I was far too young to remember that era. :D

I love the original SLC. Bit strange they are using the name for this model now.

It's lack of imagination and lack of respect. Of course the old marketing department no doubt think it's a clever move.

I think that's a bit harsh.

More likely is that it aligns their brand and anyone who dreamt of an SLC in 1973 is not the target market for the new car.

I will miss "SLK" though, but not the millions who thought K was for Kompressor.

THE 9G-TRONIC is I believe a twin clutch type box not a torque convertor box

No, it's a torque convertor. The DCT box is only put into models like A, B and GLA

I am not sure that I understand the new name.

As I understood it the SLK stood for SL Klein (SL Small) and that SLC was SL Coupe as the SLC was fixed head rather than a convertible.

You're not the only one.

SLC43 sounds good. Shame it's not a V8.

Long live the V8

It's no V8 but it IS an AMG. :bannana:

It's strange that it's down on power and slower 0-60 time than the outgoing AMG55 but it's a massive £9k cheaper.

Ant.

K= Kurz
sportlich (sporty), leicht (light) und kurz (short)

BUT NOW.... and I know this is complex

SL is the retained name for sports cars (GL for SUV.... except the "G" :wallbash:)

C= C-class

SLC = sports car related to C class.

Leaves the door open for SLA? SLE? SLS....doh!

SLGLS coupes?

That's no help at all. In actual fact you've just made things worse! In all fairness I can understand you getting confused. ;) Trust me, it's just marketing b0llox again. :D

If they did an Affordable SLC43 with Gullwing doors I would buy one. Not until.

Gull wing doors on a convertible... I want one too.

The SLK55 is 421hp and the new SLC43 AMG comes in at 367hp.

This engine is great in our SL (with slightly less power) so I imagine it will suit the SLC perfectly.

It's also probably lighter than the outgoing V8 and with twin turbos very easily tunable if that's your thing. It would probably be no more than a remap to match the power of the old 55 motor.

The handling will no doubt improve due to less weight dragging the front of the car around.

All that said, this change is most likely driven by the Chinese market still due to punitive import tax on engine capacities over 4 litre.

I think if you can get past the "It's not a V8 therefore not as good" mindset, it will probably turn out to be a very good car indeed.

We're delighted with our SL400 and it's certainly fast enough, I can imagine the SLC43 would easily show it a clean pair of heels.

Larger is not always necessarily better.

For example, the SL400 (the 329hp version we have) is faster and more economical than a 2010 R230 5.5 V8 SL500, not by much, but ultimately faster. 5.2 vs 5.4 0-60 mph. So when the facelift receives 367hp it will be faster still. It's actually the reason we decided to go with the 400 after I had every intention of going to buy the 4.7tt SL500 (which is pretty much as fast as many AMG models from not that long ago with 455hp as standard).

More efficient, more powerful forced induction petrol engines are the way forward these days. It's progress
