Hello folks.

Just getting my head round this new VED/road tax scenario.

I currently have a 2010 C63. How is the new changes likely to affect me, if at all?? Do i continue just paying at £515 a year? I dont know if i am interprettimg things correctly, but my next tax bill wont be £1120 will it???

Cheers

As I understand it...The nex tax system comes in for cars registered in 2017 (17 reg onwards). Cars registered before that stay on the current scheme. So you will still pay £515

Correct. It only affects vehicles registered from 1st April 2017 onwards.

So buy a 6 year old C63 in 2023 and only pay £140 a year road tax, whilst a 7 year old C63 is still £515.

In principle, yes (subject to what the charges are in 2023).

Something similar applies to high-emission cars either side of 23 March 2006. Current charge for vehicle over 255 g/km:
Registered on 23.3.06 ..... £515
Registered on 22.3.06 ..... £295

As with the 40-year rolling exemption from VED, and no MoT requirement for cars built before 1960, these steps will forever affect the value of the cars.

As most new cars are nowadays in low-VED classes, currently costing much less than £140, many people (and firms) thinking of getting a new car may take the plunge in March - new registration, but still low VED. I expect good sales figures!

If only.:wallbash:
The way the motorist is being bent over, you can double those figures then thank the chancellor and inflation.

Cheers her the help lads.
