New (to me) SLS!

You seem to be right Rash ;)

Thing is, I wasn't nearly as able to enjoy it last time I had an SLS as I wasn't too good in 'myself' - my dad had recently passed away, my mum about to. Things are very different now, my intention is to keep this (as long as I continue to be able to afford it!) as it's surely going to be a modern classic very quickly (think BMW Z8?).

Anyway, I must work harder so I can continue to enjoy other new metal with the SLS nicely tucked away, but for now, this is my daily drive. Funnily enough (although this was more planned as it was ordered some time ago), Vicki gets one of the new M3's on launch day this Saturday :D

That's very sad news about you dad, bud :(
Really sorry to hear that.
I'm really sorry to hear that things aren't too good with your mum either.
I work within the healthcare industry so I know how difficult it can be.
My thoughts are with you.

It's times like these that often change your perspective about things, and it certainly sounds like it has had that effect on you to a degree.

Good to hear that you will be looking to keep hold of the SLS.
Vicki certainly doesn't seem to be "short changed" out of the deal either!:rock:

I hope she is well.

Look forward to following your usual personalisation of the vehicles :thumb:

Welcome back to the fold Andrew. It' a shame I can't actually get in he SLS ( remember the Lake District bash), mobility is getting worse.
Nice colour scheme.

Congrats, they are a great car, i love mine

PS Have you found out where the key goes yet?

Welcome back to AMG Andy - couldn't have picked up a nicer one to return with.

I think the best view of an SLS is looking from the front, back over the bonnet - the width/stance is very impressive :thumb:.

Yes, front-end on is my favourite angle too

Thanks buddy....my mum passed away last year too but, much as I feel guilty for saying this, it was a blessing in the end (she'd suffered with Alzheimers for a few years).

Things are better now and yeah....Vicki doesn't do too badly in terms of car ownership! She does everything else for me, so deserves it.

I don't think there'll be much personalisation of the SLS outside of the minor audio upgrade and TCU upgrade I had done last time.....it's pretty much perfect out of the box!

Cheers Bej, although I'm sure we could get you in it, just can't guarantee you'll get out though ;)

Beautiful car. Is it fast? :P

I think I'd describe it as 'savage' :D

Ha ha....yes. Nice and convenient eh?

Without going too off-topic, I'm really sorry about your mum :(
And I know what you mean about your mum being able to rest now after suffering for so long. Sadly, it's a conversation I have had more times than I'd like with our client's relatives.

Say hi to Vicki and I hope to see you both soon.

Beautiful machine :thumb:

Looking forward to seeing it in flesh in September :)

Fantastic looking car, and I will have a £10 bet you change it within 6 months - I know you too well!

Looks like a great colour combo and ceramic brakes too - is that the old Gearknob though?

We'll see....let's make it interesting: £50 to the charity of your choice if I sell in 6 months? Or the other way round if I don't? I'm being brave because I have form here - I lost a similar bet on my white C63 (and I paid)!

Thanks for pointing out my knob....I'll be sure to address that :D

The car went into MB yesterday on its last day of warranty to have a few small items seen to and, blow me down, I think I've found a competent MB dealer with my first experience of MB Derby who are my nearest AMG specialist.

They had 3 rattles/creaks to address - you know what I'm like with rattles and every SLS rattles, creaks or groans somewhere, at least to my ears (unavoidable really as they ride so hard). Anyway, this one was no different but the best I've 'heard' to date - after Derby had a bash at it, it's now totally rattle free :D

Additionally, they've also done a software update which has made it so much smoother, and it's transformed the gearbox. Seriously, this latest software update is nearly as good as the GT TCU upgrade I had on my last one and questions whether it now needs that (although knowing me, I probably will still have it done).

In comparison to the DCT in my M6, the SLS 'box was archaic but after this update, I actually think it has the edge in daily driving - it's still not quite as snappy in manual, but it feels smoother than the BMW unit at low speeds. I actually think the BMW's problem is nothing to do with the gearbox though - it has brake energy regeneration which means you tend to get incremental engine braking when you lift off, thus making it feel jerky at low speeds. There's no such efficiency technology in the SLS!

Andrew long time no speak.... Sorry to hear about you mum and Dad.

Err what happened to the M6??

Love the new sls, colour combo is perfect.. I am guessing you traded in the M6 for the sls, if you did I hope you didn't get hit to hard.

So has the 135i gone now the M3 is coming?

I got rid of the c class and have a new E350 and I love it, really see why you liked yours so much.

Thanks Scott :thumb:

I really rated our E-class coupe - we swapped it for no other reason than me being me!

I still own the M6 so I now need to sell it myself - I couldn't trade it in as the SLS was on SoR itself, so the trader wouldn't/couldn't take my car in part ex. I have a firm plan for it but whichever way I cut it, the M6's depreciation is nothing short of offensive (even with the initial c.30% discount).

The M135i was much more palatable and yes, we traded that in today for this....

No, that is not me in the drivers seat, but it was one of the funniest handovers I've had. The car was initially covered; when they pulled the cover off, they'd already placed the stig in the car :D

All the employees at the dealer were buzzing about this cars launch today

It was UK launch day today so I was lucky to be able to take delivery - it has to be one of the first ones on the road. I know it's the wrong forum, but it's bloody good too.

Great looking car. :thumb:

However, I would have respectfully declined the 2 complimentary bottles of water in the car

:D

Rash, you're just hilarious....love it! If I'm honest, I also didn't really want them but for very different reasons - the rattles they'd make on the 2 hour journey home (and they did!). We're all a little special in our own ways ;)

Imagine your distress at the stig leaning on the front wing!!! You'd have had a seizure :D

Hey Andy, very sorry to hear about your parents, very challenge to say the least and I can fully empathise with you after my personal experiences in past two years. Hope everything settles down for you, to what will be new norm in life.
All the best.
Kamal
