New to me Yellowstone SLK

I have a Java Green Stag, not been used since 1992 guess it needs some tlc now. Has 37k on clock
Needs a jonnysmith barn find, perhaps?

Original engine or Rover V8 ?

How's its paint ? Fancy changing the colour?

That's different - I've not seen that done with a Stag.

On the same lines. This is a proper steel body, chopped down a bit, and with a really well made chassis and hitch, but I'm surprised the nose weight isn't too much for the bay that tows it.

I only have one yellow car. I bought it for my mum 22 years ago. She wouldn’t accept it as a gift, so my name has been on the V5 all that time. She’s 80 now, and can’t get in or out of it anymore, so I have it back. I’m loathe to sell it because I’ll never find another…

J2 limited, 800 made.

Geez…. the Stag is a 1975 model, I purchase it in 1986 (37 years ago) and have not used it since 1992 (31 years ago). I was the third owner.
This is before the luxury of smartphones. I do have images somewhere, patience is a virtue. When time permits I shall display/show.

Not mine as taken on-line but shows/displays JavaGreen Stag…. this is nicer than mine, mine is partially dismantled awaiting work in one of my garages. Did restore it myself in 1988 to very good standard. Managed to get a complete exhaust system, two front wings and a front valance (all BL original parts)👍. Alas, needs restoring again. I suppose I could take an image next time in that garage👍

92k kms lots of demand for that !

Bet the owner of that trailer is kicking himself… stags are rising in value🤓

The Java green was a nice bright colour, not popular, not my choice of colour but hey ho, not bad👍
Lots of Stags were scrapped, purely because of the engine.

Like all Classics, the ones that survive are … exceptional.

Has original engine. Would need to get it overhauled for running on unleaded. That would cost… would be better just waiting and getting an electric motor fitted but I guess I would lose that amazing v8 burble😳

I hired an apple green one of these in the early 80’s and toured Switzerland. Loved it😍

You need to Google “barn finds”

Plenty of enthusiasts would love to breathe life back into that

But it’s not worth a fortune. As is, or restored

Stags were wonderful “if” the engine was maintained and sorted. Proper “classics” but maybe not rare enough.

That is the trouble…. too many have survived out of the approx 25k made. Fitted the new wings and front valence myself as I served my time in the motor trade prior to joining the RAF. Resprayed it as well.

So had a good look at the SLK today.
The body work really is immaculate, no rust in rear wings Had a good look on the inside with a torch, same with front wings and same inside boot lid. Bonnet is excellent. Given how troublesome this model was to rust, this is remarkable.
It has had some paint work however, it is of a high standard.
Does it have areas that require attention:

1. Spare key does not work - will deal with this next year through Mercedes dealership
2. Central locking not functioning, suspect PCE unit/module, job for next year.
3. The headlining is starting to delaminate, known Mercedes problem. Will strip and send to upholsterer.

I did pay strong money for this car however, condition for 26/27 year old car and 14k mileage means you only get what you pay for. For the price… could have bought a VW Up😂😂
Or purchased 3/4 Audi A2s to join the two I have already.

The car looks really great in the pictures. PSE units are common for trouble. Water gets into them. A common preventive measure is to turn the unit upside down. This prevents water from damaging the circuit board if it gets in. The chrome hoops are non-original and the wheels would have originally been diamond cut on the outer lip. I love it in yellow though!

Might be able to make out the diamond cut lip. My lovely wife modelling 🤣

Disagree.
Great bargain for the mileage, if the condition is consistent.
Key must not be resolved through the dealership. A key specialist will do a better job for a quarter or half of a main dealer price. He may be able to resolve your central locking module issue too.

A headlining specialist can do a better job of re- fixing the headlining. Mess with it at your peril. A specialist can save if, if the mileage is genuine. Better to save than remove and replace.

Same price as a VW Up: for sure. But yours is twice the car and will not depreciate, while an Up, by definition, will go down 10% a year

Another two Audi A2’s ? Nobody needs four cars of the same nmodfl / spec, except to upgrade

I jest😍
The condition is truly exceptional, credit to previous owners:
New tyres, discs and brakes all round.
All MOTs
Good service history
Loads of invoices in a file
All interior removed and sent to specialist for repaint/refurb
Seats reupholstered in Black leather with yellow stitching
Seat belts replaced in yellow
all underneath treated in perhaps dynatrol
windscreen replaced years ago due to delamination
AMG bodykit all round
For the purists- not original, but I am delighted to have it….. will improve it…. plan on keeping mileage down and spending whatever it needs each year.
The VW quip was indeed a what you could get if unhappy, I am happy.
The A2s well I have two, one for wife and a spare fsi (getting rare) for parts or perhaps put back on road and give to son…. did offer it to him and he said no thanks😳
The Stag (very good condition for age) however, will restore to same as before or as image posted earlier is a keeper along with the SLK

Headlining I shall remove and give to a fabric/upholsterer to restore😍

Spoke to Mercedes keys replacement in Birmingham they quoted £280….. I have a Mercedes dealership on my doorstep, was thinking if they do it… any problems with it after replacing they would fix etc. But still looking at Birmingham in January
