Hey all, I'm new to Merc's, and just got my first, an old '95 C180. All is good, but I'm having a little issue with the console:

Take a look at this image:

console.jpg

2 - How do I set the alarm proporly? Do I press up/or down, just up, just down? Thats a very confusing button!

1 - What does this dial actually do... I can't figure it out!

All in all, loving the car, especially now I have gotten used to the parking brake!

Welcome to the forum!

Ok, I used to only push button #2 if someone was going to sit in the car while it was locked.

In the newer cars (like I had) you didnt need to press the button at all, just lock the car normally with the keyfob.

Switch #1 is simple also.

If it is pointing up then you will put air onto your windscreen to demist.

If it is to the right then air will go up and to your feet.

If it is down then you get air on your feet/legs.

If it is facing left then you will get air through the left and right vents.

You should have vents in the middle above the entre console.

These are for fresh air from outside.

Hope this helps!

Welcome again!

Regards,

KJ

Hi and welcome.

Dial 1 is for air dirtribution. The arrows should give you a clue as to where the air flow will be output. (The 12 'o clock position gives you front window demister. The 9 'o clock position outputs the two centre vents.)

Button 2 serves two funtions. Pushing it down will de-activate the interior motion sensors if you wish to lock the car outside the shops whilst leaving passengers in the car.
Pushing the button up will de-activate the tow away sensors, if you need to have the car....err....towed.

You shouldn't need to use either to set the alarm on an everyday basis. This button is used very rarely indeed. (In fact, I've never used it).

KJ beat me to it.
Must learn to type faster!!
:-)

inded it is confusing, in the newer ones, right is everything, face ,screen and feet,
down is face and feet + windows misted on the outside while left is just face alone,

Haha, thanks ;) - one more quick question - why the second temp dial on the right then? Does that mean the passenger can have cold air while I have warm air?

In a word, yes.

Awesome - finally our lass can burn in ultra hot mode all she wants while I stay nice and chilled :D

Also, before I forget, how much fuel can the tank hold in litres? I dont have the owners manual and theres no mention on the fuel guage...

67 including the reserve if I'm not mistaken.

I think it´s actually 62L including reserve. On mine (post facelift) the most I ever squeazed in was 57L

Matt

On checking the handbook it seems you are correct. I'm surprised though as I have put over 60 liters in my car on more than one occasion!
